Unable to remove shortcuts on the homepage EMUI 8.1.0

I hope this question makes sense. I have a Huawei P20 Pro running EMUI 8.1.0 and I would like to customise the desktop a bit. I don't want to uninstall the apps incase I need them later, just delete the shortcuts, which I assume I do by holding down the shortcut and dragging it to the remove icon at the top right of the screen?

Well, when I do this no "remove" option comes up for me!

Welcome to the forums. Have you enabled the app drawer? I think it's disabled by default and all your apps reside on the home screen (like an iPhone). Go to settings - display - home screen style and make sure that the drawer is enabled.
