Android Central Question

I have a Galaxy S edge, T-Mobile. Just got the Oreo update, it installed fine. After reading various threads the consensus seems to be I should either wipe cache or factory reset. Thought I'd try the cache wipe first as it's less destructive!
On this phone you power off, then hold down the power, vol+ and home keys until you see the "Recovery boot" message. That worked fine - although I don't get why they always use such a tiny font!
Anway, before it got to the recovery menu I got a blue screen with the android robot saying "Installing Update" this lasted a few minutes then I got a dead robot with a yellow warning triangle and the message "No Command" (in a large font).
At that point all I could do was hold down the power key for several seconds, when I got the rest of the recovery menu but no option to choose, the phone just rebooted.
I tried it a couple of times hoping it would clear, but no luck.
Any suggestions? Is there another way to do a cache wipe?
thanks
patrick
