Mine started doing this the past couple of days too - Galaxy 6s. I just installed Whatsapp a day or so ago. I disabled gestures and cleared the cache, but not the data.
Mine started after a facebook update. reinstalled facebook and it continued. Did not delete messenger though. Seems this 4 Steps accept for messenger has worked for me.
Welcome to Android Central!
Have you tried going in to your settings, application manager, all apps, scroll down to TouchWiz Hone, and clearing the data? this will reset your home screen but it will also reset the app and may fix the issue for you.

this worked for me. .. Go to settings/ my device. Untick motions/gestures. It's ok to keep air gestures enabled. After weeks of searching complicated means of fixing the problem i can't believe how simple this fix was.
THANK YOU for this fix!! You were right, EASY!![]()
How to fix it
hey thank you for this 1 year ago info,, my A5 got the same problem this morning then i google and i found this thread ,, thank youuuu so much..
hi,i use a samsung galaxy s7edge,i tried every step u mentioned above,it still won't fix "touchwiz isn't responding" on my phone.
It started all of a sudden with lags, and it showed up the message "touch wiz isn't responding", please help me out.
Thank you in advance.
This error has just started with me this morning, out of the blue. Cannot access the Application Manager because getting Settings had stopped errors too. Attempted to boot into Safe Mode, but the volume down method did not work. Went to the Bootloader, and cleared the partition cache, with no changes.
Trying to avoid a factory reset, but starting to feel that may be the only option...
