Ok depending on what devices you have, there are ways to make using open wifi relatively safe, but I can definitely understand wanting to stay off of it. Do you do a lot of streaming? Any way some things could be pinned while in the less congested setting or on WiFi before heading to work? I'm just throwing out some ideas to mitigate the congestion at work if that's where you'll be using the majority of your data.

Ah okay.. yeah you have to judge your area. Since I've been on T-Mobile I've had the congestion clauses .. but I don't see it often for my area. Last month was a high month for me at 126 GB. My normal average is 30 to 50 (anywhere in there).

I'm more like 30 gb a month. Sometimes less. Seldom more
If I had truly unlimited tethering I would use a lot more. I'd bring a ipad to watch netflix and use wifi hotspot for data. NFL games use much more data per hour than Netflix which I find odd.

I just wonder what Verizon will consider excessive. We know that on the old unlimited plans Verizon will cancel you without a chance to make a change If you hit 200gb. Granted that isn't de prioritized but still... There has got to be a number... I don't think Verizon is going to let someone hit 5 Terabytes and do nothing about it.

I currently have the ULD plan and use Foxfi for tethering, I have a Galaxy S6. If I change to the new plan and continue to use the Foxfi app wouldn't all data continue to be cell phone data and not Hotspot data?

Screw it. I moved to unlimited. Hit our limit last month with the 12GB we had and got throttled in safety mode. For $40 extra, or 1 night out, per month I will avoid that.

You know I thought about this but I put several factors in before making my final decision.
Back when we had the old *unlimited* plan, we never got passed 2gb of data use. I never stream any music or videos as I store them locally on the msdc.
We were on one of the old plans of 1gb, no device access fee and 15% off employer discount bringing the total to around 65ish with tax.
We have gotten close to 1gb of usage but never had any overages during the 2 year contract.

Ran some numbers with the $55 for 5 GB plan. Yes it puts that damn device access fee, but our employee discount kicks in and with that extra 5 off for auto pay it makes it to around 56ish so we ended up getting MORE data for less!

Because we now have to pay monthly on our devices (when we upgrade), the extra amount on top of our plan won't be as bad. I project it to be around 85 ish for each device total...which is alot better than doing the unlimited plan pricing (which apparently didn't want to give the 15% off employee discount, hmm) and having our bill go over 100 a month.

Did you switch to 5GB yet? I was told by Verizon it's an individual plan and you can't add a 2nd smartphone to it. Your post sounds like you have/are planning to have two lines on it.
