Unlocking cell phones becomes illegal Saturday

Surprised nobody here on AC has made this a headline. It's bad news just on principle if nothing else. Obviously I can't totally own my phone and do as I will with it so why should we have to pay a retail cost for it?

Probably the reason why is it has nothing to do with rooting or unlocking the boot loader. it's just carrier unlocking so you can't go and use it on another carrier. Think it would be cool if jerry did a blog on it so all these threads can stop popping up. Every one even media is clue less on what it really is.

It's not going to change anything when it comes to the average Joe. I am in Canada so it probably won't do anything to us.
Heck we can still download torrents of movies, mp3s and such legally as long as we don't sell or distribute them!
That's why I laugh when the US tries crap like this.

Isn't that how it's supposed to be in the US?

Ha ha ha no, not even close. It's illegal to download, sell, distribute, etc. Any form of digital media in the USA. So pretty much if you are US Citizen and you download a torrent of a movie. You could go to jail! Hell, even if you download and MP3 you can get fined huge!
