Supposedly Moto names the update to the current official version so it all matches up.

Yup. It's a stupid, non-standard naming convention.

I don't have the update yet, but I have no data (3G/4G) at the moment. I read that there was a nation wide data outage for all of the 4G devices.
installed it on rooted bionic and theres no 4G icon and no data connectivity beyond wifi
No data, try forcing phone to cdma only then make a phone call. Seemed to work for many. I personally just switched to cdma only and rebooted.
Anyone try update that was forever rooted and keep root? Coming from 5.5.893
I was able to come over from .893 with forever root and keep my root. it is surprisingly easy to update this is a stock o t a from motorola all you have to do is download it put it on your sd ext card and then boot into stock recovery.
I just updated to 5.9.901, and will give initial impressions in the near future.
NOTE: Steps to update to 5.9.901 should include how to get into recovery mode (on the Bionic) in the first place.
I figured it out but it would have been a lot easier if I knew in advance to hold both up and down volume before pressing the power button.
Otherwise; the step by step instructions were spot on.
I know how not worried about that, just wanted to make sure root carried over like it's supposed to.
Also, do you happen to have the any hdmi webtop mod and does it work with newest OTA?
Ok, I guess I missed a spot in that spot on.... I I have a rootedforever Bionic that I installed the OTA update 5.5.893. I downloaded the Blur_Version.5.5.893.XT875.Verizon.en.US.zip file and placed it in the Root directory of my SD card (in root explorer there is SDcard that is 7 gigs and SDcard-Ext that is 29 Gigs I used SDCard-Ext) Then I powered off the phone and then held Volume up and down and powered on. I used the volume down to scroll to the recovery item and selected it with volume up. I get the Moto Duel core graphic, then the Android standing next to a Triangle with an ! in it and that is where it sits forever.
So what did I miss?
Yes once you are in stock recovery and see the Android robot in the triangle you need to press Volum up and down at the same time, then select install from sdcard.
