[UPDATE] ZVJ UPDATE.ZIP + rooting instructions

i gave up on trying to root zvj. following the instructions to the 't' and still wont root...so back on hydro till a better plan is in works

I was thinking of doing this anyway, when I started experiencing the com.android.launcher error. At the same time, I became unable to add any icons to the desktop, and the wallpaper reverted to stock picture of bright snowy mountains under a clear blue sky. My photo that I had been using for wallpaper seems to have vanished, but I was able to set it to different custom image. Assuming USB connectivity and other infrastructure related to the ZVJ upgrade will work, will that fix the launcher problem in the course of acquiring the new baseband?

Or I could just to a factory reset and re-root to ZVD...that would probably turn out to be simplest.

If you ran through this (and in the process did your factory reset) you'd be left with Rooted ZVJ and your problem likely would have been resolved.

The factory reset on ZVD would probably fix it too and would be less work.

Least amount of work would be to restore nandroid backup from when it was still working.

I assume you're responding to me in post #45--no, I haven't done any of the steps in this thread, yet, so I expect it'll be worth my while to go back to factory, first.

Okay so I haven't played with my phone much since reborn came out :-P. Twins can do that, I'm rooted and still running Reborn, do I just update twice like I would if I was going to ZVH or do I still need to use my computer.... Or can I just use terminal emulator?

Update twice only works with the ZVD update.zip.

You need to install stock recovery, then use it to apply the ZVJ update.zip just once.

Those actions can be done without a computer, but if you have a computer it is easier, since there is an automation script to do it for you:

At this point, if you want it rooted, you HAVE to follow the method in the OP. but if you don't care about saving root, flash once in xionia, reboot, boot to recovery, flash the update.zip again. That should get you.

Edit: Sfhub is right, sorry. But you you can use terminal emulator to reinstall stock recovery and then flash the update.zip. Your best bet is to use the root tool sfhub posted.

This is very important!! The current rooting process for ZVJ requires you to start with rooted ZVD or ZVH first! If you have already upgraded to ZVJ, you need to revert back, obtain root and follow the guide referenced in the OP.

I'm really not trying to be rude people, but please READ what is right in front of you. It is all laid out in detail.

I digress.

I started with STOCK ZVJ ROM with STOCK ZVH recovery and used the automatic no reverting thread and the previouslly rooted thread and rooted ZVJ.
