*Updated* How to re-enable Tethering on KitKat. (New method on T-Mobile without root.)

Hi,

I am on SGH-I337 and I have updated to KitKat 4.4.2. My phone is unlocked and I am on pre-rooted stock rom. I had been searching for past 2 days on internet how to get my tether to start working again. Someone please help me if you have any idea how to fix this for 4.4.2?

Any help is highly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Re: TIPS: How to re-enable Tethering on KitKat.

hello i have the lg g2 d801a running kitkat updated from jellybean i do not like kitkat that much it drains my battery and i cant root my device and it dont boot into recovery

This worked for me on my Samsung G3, T-mobile $30 plan, no rooting required. I created a new network access point by copying all off the information from the existing one and changing the APN and APN type as described by the OP. I then set this new access point to be the default. I toggled tethering on in the phone settings and was able to connect and browse with an ipad. Super! I doubt I will hear from T-mobile since I will only be using it infrequently and doubt I will use much data when I do use it. After reading more of the posts hear I will do some more testing. I browsed to google and google news without a problem, but stopped there for lack of time.

I have a KitKat Note 3 on AT&T. I have set "global tether_dun_required 0" and "system tether_entitlement_check_state 0" but I still get thwarted. Has anyone had better luck than me?

Tethering broke for me when I upgraded my Nexus 5 to Android L, using the steps outlined in this post previously I got tethering working.

My setup:
MetroPCS
Nexus 5 (unrooted)
APN is set to ipv4
APN has "dun" appended to the type
I issued this command with adb: settings put global tether_dun_required 0 (and have verified it is set to this value using adb)

My current problem seems to be with my APN settings, whenever I add "dun" to the apn my phone INSTANTLY looses all data connection, as soon as I remove the "dun" my phone will regain LTE connection within three seconds. It seems somehow TMO is able to block people who add this info to the apn, and they just disable all data period....

If I try to tether without "dun" in the apn, my laptop just says "no internet connection" but it sees the phone and is connected to the phones wifi, a "ping -t google.com" it will resolve an ip for google but then no ping data is returned.
I also have the ultimate user agent switcher on my laptop on chrome, and I set it to "iphone 4" or "Null" usually.

Wondering if anyone has any suggestions.
