Simple question:

LG v40 $600 vs Best Buy unlocked Note 9 $699

Coming from an LGv20 which I have really loved using, but time to move on.

I do tend to drop phones (which is more robust?), like using the built-in HD recorder (the one in the V20 is a champ), and take pix when I don't have my dSLR handy (the best camera is the one you have with you). Does anybody think the prices will come down any further in the next few weeks?

Have read reviews till my eyes are bugging out, so time for some direct input :D. Does the BB version work on with wifi/VolTE (I"ve seen reports yes and no, so am still not clear). Is the Stylus Pen worth it? Is the LG v40 a worthy successor? Is Samsung software/skin a pain to learn (I jumped to LG from HTC)?

Thoughts welcomed :)

Anybody? If this was the wrong place to post this, let me know and I'll try in the appropriate forum :)

I have the V20, V40, and the Note 8 so I almost have the same phones.

Do you use Samsung Pay and the stylus? Do you anticipate using them alot?

I am a big Note fan and I didn't get the Note 8 or Note 9 right away because they cost too much. I traded my S8+ in for my V40 and got a discount.

My Note 8 was used and I use the stylus and Samsung Pay. The V40 has Google Pay but it doesn't work as well as Samsung Pay.

Both phones have great cameras.
The speaker on the V40 is really loud and clear.
V40 has quad dac (as you know from the v20) and it blows away the Note 8 (Dolby).
V40 has band 71 (I have T-Mobile) and the reception in buildings is much better. This is one of the reasons I got the V40. I think the Note 9 supports band 71 for T-Mobile but I am not sure about the unlocked BB version.

Note 9 has a better battery than the Note 8. Also just got updates to Pie/One UI so that is something to consider.

V40 (Tmobile) has no Pie yet but the Verizon version just got it.

I have no clue about the Unlocked BB Version being able to use Wifi/VoLTE.

I love the stylus and use it every day.

So helpful - thank you very much!! I think I'm leaning towards the V40 despite the appeal of the stylus (i'm a TERRIBLE phone typer, so being able to scribble things onscreen would be wonderful), but haven't pulled the trigger yet. A few more days to think about it! :)

Depends on how much your looking to spend. I'm using an LG v40 right now and I love it. But I'm one of the few people who have always preferred the lg v series phones over samsung. My wife uses the galaxy series. I would also consider a one plus 7 pro.

Hello! I too think the V40 would be a worthy successor for you - especially if you are already used to the media advantages of the V20. Let us know what you decide!

Anybody know if there are anticipated further price reductions on the v40? I keep expecting it to have another tumble as the release date for the v50 and Note 10 approach, but it's been holding at $600 on Tmo. Travelling soon and should probably upgrade before that, but keep hoping.... Lol

PS was impressed by the oneplus 7pro on display in a store, but no headphone jack! Ugh why are so many moving to that format.

I've been an LG user way back since the lg g2. Switched to the V series when the V10 came out My wife uses the galaxy and I always try her new phone for a couple of days and just feel more comfortable with the LG phones. IMO, the V40 price will probably drop again in the fall obviously when the V50 arrives. But I don't think 600 for a V40 is a bad price at all.
