I just called Google customer support, and I let him know that other retailers like Office Depot, Staples and Gamestop are stating they will have the Nexus 7 in stock for purchase on July 12. He agreed and said that they are going to ship any moment and then spoke quietly to answer my next question, "Will we get them on the 12th like the retail stores", he said yes.

Very odd if this did happen. A call center agent in quiet hushed tones giving you information that wasn't otherwise supposed to be conveyed is pretty unlikely as their calls are monitored and I'm sure leaking information is a fireable offense. I hope it's true, but am skeptical. I preordered on the 7th and the time frame on the order pages was at 2 to 3 weeks, now it's down to 1 to 2. My guess is they ship early next week. Only time will tell. I will be cranky though if the retail pre-orders arrive prior to those ordered through Google directly.

I work at a call center for an airline and our calls our "recorded" but not all of them. Also I doubt if he gave away this information he might be told not to do it again in the future, or maybe they are allowed to give it out now who knows.

I did post a picture of Gamestop now having them in stock.

The build up for this is just incredible. I agree with previous posters that I have never been as excited for this as I have been for other tech products. I love to keep checking this page, checking google news, gmail , and my google wallet. Not much work getting done over the past few days...

Same here. I've really never purchased a tech product this fast before, especially never on preorder. Usually I would read many reviews before deciding, so I guess it just shows how much faith most have in Googles craftsmanship.

Went into GameStop to put more money down on my Nexus 7 (had only put down a $50 deposit), and I asked the guy, when are these things expected in and he said "in 2 days, Thursday 7/12", I almost fainted. Up until last Friday they kept saying 7/31. My new receipt does show 7/12 on it.
