I was trying to update to Froyo using the official .exe and I was I went through the steps, I was told to unplug my phone and plug it back in. After plugging it back in, my Windows 7 machine will not recognize my phone on ANY USB port (I only have 3). Now my phone is stuck on the "Downloading..." screen and neither of the laptops in the house recognize my phone.

So far Ive tried uninstall the USB Host and Hub from the Device Manager, removing the battery to my laptop to let the mobo "reset", reinstalling android drivers, and connecting the phone to another laptop. Nothing has worked. Help!

so if you pull the battery and put it back in you are still in download mode?

If I pull the battery out and put it back in without holding 1 + Power then itll show me the Cellphone...!...PC picture.

Ok so thats a soft brick,

you will need to follow the directions on this thread, it has the drivers and the files you need to recover

If you are using a PC, use the USB connections in the back.. also disable any antivirus software,,,if you have not done so already you should restart the computer

I know about factory restoring my phone using Odin, but the main problem is I cant do that because my laptops wont recognize the phone. I get the USB device malfunction/USB Device Not Recognized whenever I plug it in any of the ports (that goes for both laptops).

Darn Windows 7 ! It has caused more driver related issues and Odin too...

Laptops are not that great for using Odin, but no one believes me for some reason lol,,,

ok try this i dont know if it will work with the epic...can you completely remove the battery connect it to your laptop and see if you can get it into download mode...also make sure your laptops are plugged into the wall

It can go to Download mode but my laptop wont recognize it as anything but a Samsung USB Composite Device.

thats fine, when in download mode it sees it as a generic samsung device. Open up odin , when in odin do you see a yellow box inside is says something like Com:0 or something to the effect?

Nope. Neither Odin or Heimdall sees anything.

From what i hear Heimdall unstinstalls the drivers or something like that , just use odin since your computer sees it as a composite device you should be good

Odin doesnt see it. And no, I only have laptops. Theyve worked before so I dont know why the USBs arent working now. Ive had similar problems with other devices.

Follow DroidXcon, he's on the right track. ;)

BTW, I will have a Froyo EB13 ".tar" file up in a few minutes to add to the [How to] Factory Restore (or Fix a Bricked Phone) section. I know people will be needing this to revert from rooted/custom ROMs to stock form to take in for replacements/repairs or just want to go back stock.

Okay, so I got Heimdall-Frontend to open up, under PDA/Code, FactoryFS I put the .tar correct?

try reinstalling the drivers one more time
get them from here, go to software and get the drivers
Samsung

dont open heimdall again

restart your laptop

and try again

Just did that. Drivers installed, Odin has it recognized. 0:Com6. How do I go from where I am now to Froyo?
