Using a PTP USB connection as a pseudo scanner

I have a Windows program I am testing a scan function and don't have a true scanner. So I thought I would use my phone like a scanner. I tried connecting using PTP and hit scan on my Windows App but it basically starts downloading every picture on my phone and I can't control the content I want it to consume. Is there some sort of app that can get around this? I tried the camera app and a barcode app but it does not seem to be able to take over the PTP stream/connection. Anyone know if it is possible to do this?
