When using odin to flash custom roms or going back to stock. Is it necessary to do wipes with CWM or does odin wipe every thing for you?
Also if I use odin to flash say a cuustom rom like ACE or SFR can I use my titainium backups to restore my apps and settings?
One more for now- what is the differance between odexed and deodexed roms?
TIA

Anytime you use Odin it will do a complete wipe of your device. Unless it is stated differently in the Odin package your using just assume your device will be completely wiped clean.

Odex = This is how your OS is coded stock from Google. It runs a bit faster (you will never notice) but also at the same time modifications to it is very limited. Each app and main system file is broken down into two pieces, example "Browser.apk" and "Browser.odex". The odex file contains all the classes.dex (smali code) and other stuff. You will rarely ever see any custom ROMs done in odex format.

Deodexed = This is when a ROM dev goes in and removes the " .odex " part of each application and main system files and complies them together into one " .apk ". This is how custom ROMs are built and presented to you for use and for modifying.

Hope this helps without being to difficult to understand. :p

Thanks Paul,

I assume using odin will not wipe the sd card? But will remove titainnium from the phone. So if I reinstall titainium after a rom flash will i be able to use the saved backups from the old file system? What is the best way to restore setting and apps?

Yes you can use Titanium or MyBackup Root to backup and restore your information before and after using Odin.

Odin will not touch your sd card. Always think of your sd card as a safe place/untouched.

When using backups from a previous system we usually recommend data only restores to minimize the chances of conflicts.

I usually will use My Back Up Root to first restore my apps only (APKS) then make sure the device is okay after a reboot.. No FC's or anything... Then go back and restore data to those apps. I find if I use the option to restore APKS + Data in one shot the chances of FC's are higher.
