Using PBXes to implement the conditional call forwarding that Virgin Mobile doesn't

I already posted about my frustration in not being able to use conditional call forwarding with Virgin Mobile so that I can use Google Voice for voicemail (or another voicemail provider, for that matter).

In researching different options today, I've seen several tutorials on setting up voip with sipdroid+pbxes, etc. I'm not interested in the voip part, but this has led me to wonder if it's possible to have PBXes do the conditional call forwarding I need that Virgin Mobile doesn't provide. I've played around with it for about an hour, but it looks like most options are geared towards sip users and I can't wrap my head around some of the terminology. It's supposed to work with non-sip lines, but I can't seem to figure it out.

If you're familiar with how PBXes works with non-sip phones, is this possible? It would basically mean that PBXes would have to intercept my incoming cell phone calls and forward them, if I don't answer, to my GV number (which is set to automatically go to voicemail).

sipgate can forward and reroute your calls based on rules you setup. The only drawback is that you only get 60 mins free of forwarded calls. You'll have to pay something like $0.001 per min otherwise.

Just a note. You can get around the 60-min outgoing limitation of Sipgate. Sipgate has unlimited free incoming. So use this to your advantage. Just setup GVCallback to call your sipgate number This way, you never really ever use the actual outgoing of Sipgate.

That is what I thought too, but the incoming calls are free so long as your sip device answers. If you instead forward the calls to a landline or cellphone (as in, if I don't answer my voip, forward to my cell), then it will eat into the 60 free mins.

Ah I see your point. But in reality, isn't the call handed off to Google? Meaning it's google doing the forwarding. (yes, its confusing). But it could be sipgate... ah idk lol

Thanks guys for all the info. I guess I just have to give up wanting to use both google voice and true sms/mms. Kinda sucks.
