Verizon Edge accessories requirement bundle

So I walked into a Verizon Wireless store today to do an upgrade because I became eligible as of May 5. We decided to go with the edge plan as it would only increase our bill by 6 dollars a month. However, the sales associate required us to buy a bundle of all this useless items for $180, which I got all on Amazon for less than $30. Is this a requirement for Edge? I was eligible for a normal upgrade and everything. All I wanted was the phone and to pay just the tax of $70. Keep in mind that the $180 DOES NOT include the $70 tax.

The accessories are not required -- that rep was just trying to get more sales .. that is pretty much it.

As for the sales tax on the devices (phone, etc.) have to have taxes paid up front -- that isn't Verizon .. that is how they all do that. They must charge tax.

Well, looks like the 2 star rating on their yelp page might go down a bit....

Thanks

Fyi check the receipt. If the accessory items are sold separately from the device then you should be able to return them.

Didn't end up buying it and left. Gonna try a different verizon store today or go to Costco tomorrow.

That is some kind of ridiculous. I guess sometimes you get good representatives and sometimes not. I would not go back to that particular store ever again. However I had the exact opposite experience last night with an indirect agent. I had a problem with my phone because I messed up the APN settings or something or put in global mode or something and he stayed 30 minutes after he's closing time to get my phone fixed. I'm always going to go to him from now on for any sort of upgrades or anything if I choose to stay with Verizon. That one thing right there made me satisfied but I still feel Verizon is expensive. to the original poster, was this an indirect agent for a corporate store? I would go back and complain. I have never had that happen to me where they try to force me to buy something that I do not want or need. they always bring out cases and things for you to look at and I always buy one if it is nice and for a reasonable price and they always give me a 30% discount or I will just say that I will buy one on my own. I always order screen protectors and stuff off Amazon because they do not sell to break glass but if I do not want it they do not force it on me nor should they. That is wrong
