I dont mind Google message app with rcs to be standard , Andriod needs this as the carriers had their own version that didn't mix well with others

Going by these quotes from the article:

It sounds like Verizon is already doing the heavy lifting in making sure things are compatible. To merge those abilities into their own apps should be relatively easy. And I'm still salty that manufacturers gave up integrated voice dialing to Google Assistant's inferior voice dial abilities.

Turn Off RCS "Chat" when you switch phones, or Else. I just read an article in Droid Life regarding the Chat feature in Google Messages. For a no-issue transition from a current phone with Chat enabled to a new phone, turn the Chat feature off on the old phone first. Otherwise there could be a huge delay in getting all of your messages.

Not all of Google's products have been the Holy Grail. Before Google Assistant came along, I could voice dial without fail. Because voice dial abilities are required in my job, I need that accuracy. In those phones, it only dialed contacts. Now when I do it, GA thinks it needs to do a web search and many times will dial whatever random business it finds from a Google search rather than the actual contact name I said that is stored in my synced contacts with Google. In earlier versions of GA, I could limit it to only searching my contacts list, but Google took that necessary feature away.

I can't simply try another app or service because none exist. Google moved in and everybody else left. I fear the same with this. Google is now going to take over the SMS segment, and everyone else backing out will leave us with no options when things go sideways.

Unfortunately, I must agree with you as well. Same thing goes for any other messaging platform as well. Unless you can convince every single person in your life too jo in and use a single messaging platform, none of these make a difference. Most people on iOS and Android Use the SMS standard whether or not People want to believe it or not lol. For example signal, WhatsApp, slack, etc. You have to convince your friends and family to use the app versus regular SMS texting on your phone which is default stock.

I think this is almost a situation unique to the U.S. or North America in general. In many parts of the world, people have abandoned texting almost universally, going with other chat services instead.

Yeah, you're absolutely right. And other parts of the world, they've abandoned SMS texting completely. However, in United States of America, the situation is the exact opposite unfortunately. Hahaha.
