Verizon Galaxy Nexus (Prime) Waiting Room

Can someone explain the difference between Exynos and OMAP 4 and which one is better? Also, is SGX 540 better than Mali-400?

Mali-400: AnandTech - ARM's Mali-400 MP4 is the Fastest Smartphone GPU...for Now

direct comparisons with the OMAP SoC: AnandTech - Samsung Galaxy S 2 (International) Review - The Best, Redefined

Some bad, but overall a lot of incredible. Keep in mind though that this is vs the 1.0 GHz OMAP and not the 1.5GHz OMAP.

If you followed Anandtech back at CES, the Exynos had a big jump in performance when it went from 1.0GHz in pre-production (which was beaten by OMAP4 at the same clock speed) to it's current production runs at 1.2GHz. So we could see a similar jump in performance of the OMAP from 1.0 to 1.5 GHz.

The Nexus Prime is to have the new android OS.
One big difference between that gingerbread, and Froyo is the way it handles the processor.

Though there are devices out there that have multiple cores, gingerbread and froyo are only running those devices on one of them.

The processor makes a big difference once Ice-cream sandwich is released. That is when those Dual core phones really get to shine, especially the OMAP4.

Most people don't know how a processor, RAM, and GPU actually works, but google seems to. That is why they chose the OMAP4.

Be it Tegra2, Qualcom, exynos... all of these are single channel and single tread processors.

Though the quadrant scores may be high, there won't be much of an increase when both cores are utilized since all the processing is passing through a single channel/thread.

OMAP4 utilizes multiple channels/threads directly resulting in faster processing with less of a strain on the CPU, GPU, and RAM. This in retrospect should make the system operate faster, use less battery, and minimize the strain put on the hardware.

Right now, The quadrant scores for the OMAP4, being the way it is is amazing!!!
I say that because gingerbread prevents it from using multiple channels and yet it has quadrant scores at 1Ghz that comes close to that of the 1.2GHz Exynos.

Google is well aware of this and chose the OMAP4 for that reason. they're SoC was brilliantly written, but the basic consumer doesn't realize that.

The 1GHz OMAP4 would be a beast when Ice-cream Sandwich is released, one can only imagine what 1.5GHZ can do.

The Exynos paired with the Mali-400 is the best as far as smartphones are concerned. I read an article at Anandtech.com and it seems that the GPU matters a lot in making the UI experience smoother. Currently the best GPUs include:
Mali-400
PowerVR SGX 540,543,544(new one present in the OMAP 4460 & 4470)

The ipad2 has powerVR 543MP2(two cores I guess). It has roughly double the performance of the Mali-400 processor.
The 4460 & 4470s have MP1(only one core :( ) which will still be powerful no doubt.
But the 4460 & 4470s have a special mini processor built-in for handling just the UI or something.

The best bet would be OMAP 4470 with PowerVR SGX544MP2 :)
Mali-400 will suffer when games with high polygon count release (Anandtech makes a thorough comparison in this regard)

No new Prime news? It's been two days. Come on guys. I'm starting to get depressed for lack of new information. Wait! I'm already depressed. Wait! I just took my medication. Ahh, now I feel better! Who said anything about deing bepressed?

Well guys, I guess I'll be the first to leak this.

My wife's brother's friend's uncle's friend's brother works at Google, and he let me hold the Prime. I managed to get a picture of it:

All in all, I have to say the new design is very impressive. Can't wait to see what this bad boy will do when I get a chance to play with it a little more. I will also answer the following questions in advance: no bloatware or slide out keyboard! Yes!

I'm happy Google finally abandoned the touchscreen. That should kill the fragmentation issue.
