Verizon Galaxy Note 3 - RF Signal meter meaning

What do the vertical bars actually represent? I am sitting 6 ft away from my Wi-Fi router, but only have 2 bars. I only have 2-3 bars when I turn on 4g, but everything works ok when I use internet and I have never had dropped calls.

Your Wi-Fi looks like full signal in your picture. The vertical bars are only your 3g an 4g voice/data signal when Wi-Fi is off. When Wi-Fi is on, it's used for voice only.

I see so many people with with signal issues. I did a factory reset several weeks ago when I kept getting 3g or no service and have not seen the slashed circle since, but I rarely see more than 3 bars. My hubby's note always has at least 3 bars and we're in same service areas all the time. Just trying to avoid a trip to Verizon if there's no real need.

I don't pay any attention to the graphic in the Status Bar, I have found it very slow to update on the note 3, Go to settings, General, about, device and Click on Status, you well see your actual Signal strength there, for some reason, the status bar graphic seems to be very inaccurate.

Depends if you're inside (and what the building is made with), outside, how far you are from the cell tower, if the tower is directly visible or behind a hill, etc. Look at Verizon's coverage map and zoom in to your exact location to see how good a signal you should have.

Bottom line, if you don't have trouble making or receiving calls....then you're fine.

Ok. That's how I'm thinking to. Sammy has had issues with this before, but my phone is working fine.

If everything works ok, then don't worry.

But if you wanted to see signal strength, use an app like "advanced signal status", it would be much more useful than the bars.

The signal bars are an average. The db number is most accurate: -120db=no service and -30db the best I've ever seen near a tower and using an amplifier.
