Verizon: Galaxy Note 8 Pre-Order Thread

I was told by Verizon that it would ship on 9/12 and would be rec'd on 9/14. Also, it appears the SIM card has already shipped by FedEx 2-day and I'll have it on Monday.

That's cool. They already shipped the SIM card? Figured they would do that with the phone.

My wife said someone in one of her Facebook groups claimed to be a Verizon store rep, and was saying those that exchanged their Note 7 at any time during the first recall could exchange those phones at no additional charge to the Note 8. This means bypassing the payoff requirement. Basically their justification from corporate was that these were supposed to only be a temporary phone until the replacement Note 7's came out, but then that never happened.

This reminded me of a chat I had via Facebook with a Verizon contact, and it's definitely a legit claim even if that story was made up. Here's the relevant part of my convo, where I asked specifically about the issue of not being able to get a Note 7 replacement as promised and going outside the 14 return window on the S7E.

It's too late for me tonight, but I'll try messaging them tomorrow about it.

The person on chat on the 24th said it wasn't and somewhere I saw in print that it wasn't but I can't find that now. I suspect that like the Pixel, the Note 8 will not be eligible for upgrade at 50% paid. If this matters to you a lot. I'd call customer service and if someone says it is, get them to send you an email stating that so you have it in writing. But notice they say its at Verizon's discretion what is eligible which means they can change it at any moment.

Is insurance via verizon worth it?
As I hear phones are fragile, screens easily crack.
What is cost of insurance? And basic coverage details (eg, deductable etc)??

Tempting if you're successful, but not sure I'd want to try Verizon's bluff, personally. Not with Sprint, at least. My number is blacklisted (that's right, my number, not my phone) with them for going over my data allotment years ago on their "unlimited" plan. Lol
The Sprint deal is really tempting. I owe $460 on my S7E, which is a fine phone, but not a Note. Verizon says I have to pay it off in full. Getting another carrier to pay it off, plus 50% off Note 8, plus all the freebies, plus lower monthly bill... that's hard to pass up. Unless Sprint sucks. Do they?

I called Verizon after I did the Sprint pre-order (no money down, can cancel if I want, no downside at this point) and basically said "Look, if I can just trade in my current phone and get the discounted Note 8 price, I'll stick around." They said they would get back to me.

We'll see, I guess.

Goodluck! Can't wait to hear how this works out. I hope vzw gives in and accepts the early trade in and honors the note8 deal. If they do I will try the same.

Pre-ordered Black yesterday, will get $240 off for an old N4 had sitting in a drawer, and the Sammie goodies 128 KB card and can always use another wireless pad.
Interesting I had to bring the Sammie freebies up. I could cancel the pre-order and snag another $150 discount from BB, but had a bad experience with those dudes last year

Can't wait for my beloved back Note 8!!!

The SIM card is most likely shipping with the phone. If you're taking advantage of the trade in the box to return your current phone is what has already shipped

Never had it, never needed it. If you're smart and take care of your phone you should be fine

I have the extended warranty only through them, but no accident or loss insurance. I think it's $3-4/mo and one of the few extended warranty plans worth it in my opinion. Generally, extended warranties are not recommended and usually I agree with that sentiment. I've come to the conclusion that phones are becoming more and more fragile (*cough*glassbodies*cough*), and that anything new nowadays is a risk. I even include "ruggedized" phones like my V20 in this opinion.

I can take precautions against my own clumsiness with cases and such, but not from weakened design flaws. Most every phone I've had, or looked into, has some widespread design problem, so I like the added protection if I keep my device longer than a year. Doubly so if doing installment payments.

I just got off the phone with Verizon - their insurance (doesn't matter which plan) covers a cracked screen - BUT - there are 2 options. If you have one of their repair facilities near you (which, in CT, I don't), it was a $49 charge to have if fixed, but of course you'd be without a phone for that period. Otherwise, you can get a replacement phone for a $199 deductible fee (this fee reduces as the phone gets older). Those are the prices for my S7E - I was told that the deductible is $299 for the Note 8.

Kind of sucks that those of us who waited until the 2nd recall get left in the dust.

I get insurance on all of my phones. I have had to replace everyone of them for one reason or another. There is a time about halfway through paying for them that it is no longer feasible to keep the insurance because the value of the phone drops so much. The tricky part is finding the sweet spot to cancel. I selected the $9 plan.

I agree completely, whether its the first or second recall should not really make a difference, the product was defective through no fault of the consumer. Samsung actually reissued the product and stated it was safe. They should honor those consumers that trusted samsung enough to buy a phone that had been catching fire.

Ha. Of course 3 days after I preordered the note 8, verizon sends me an email saying I qualify for $100 off any smartphone. Lol.

well, I changed my mind again. haha.

I went back to the VZW store and checked out the Note 8 again and I am getting one. haha. I'll pick one up on the day or release, I don't like this pre-order stuff since I have a VZW store nearby. :)

Hahaha, welcome back! I never pre-order. It's always in store on release day for me. The forums over the years have me scared stiff to trade in online, preorder or deal directly with Samsung.

yeah, thanks. I live in a major city and the VZW store is just a few blocks away. totally walking distance. I didn't like the pre-order experience.

So, also I think I'm gonna get the gray. I like it better than the black, even though the phone will get a case right away. :)
