Re: Galaxy S3 4.3 update questions and issues!

Why do my icons turn transparent when I transfer apps to sd card?

Took away navigation???? Google Maps still navigates fine on my phone.

Google Maps sucks.

Big time.

And yes it still navigates, barely, with a lot less features than Navigation. And you have to push 10 more buttons to get it to navigate. Real handy when on the road.

Can't you just revert back to the old version of maps and still get back Navigation?

I think you're exaggerating a bit with the "10 buttons". Go crazy and buy yourself a car dock. I did that and have never regretted it. Makes everything easy.

I am having the same issue, plus my flash "disco light" goes off with every notification I get!!! WTH

yes, spending another $40 on a car dock is the answer. cause car docks fix bad apps. thanks for the wisdom.

No... Car docks make it easier to use your phone in the car. If you use your phone while driving without a car dock let me know in advance when you're in my area so I can stay off the road. I'd still like to know what specific "10 buttons" you need to use for Nav.

Hey austintech, I guess you are the wise sarcastic guy of this forum. Where is the cop here. The fact remains that maps sucks big time and with there removal of navigation they have blown one of the greatest apps of all time. I have frozen maps and replaced it with waze, download it from playstore and give it a try

Re: Galaxy S3 4.3 update questions and issues!

soccerdude2014, I have the same problem (though not "almost every single app, but I guess about half of them)... I posted in the first page of this thread, but it seems I was ignored... :( )
I did find out, though, that if you uninstall and reinstall the problematic apps, they work again (though I haven't had the patience to do it will all the problematic apps yet, and one of them still crashes on opening from time to time). I imagine this means a factory reset (and redownloading all apps) should fix this problem, though I have never done that and I'm afraid my backup might not work (it didn't for single apps when I uninstalled and reinstalled)...

One question: did you have low available memory when you did the update? I have a feeling the update should not have fit in the phone's memory, even though it did update...

Yeah, I noticed that if you uninstall/reinstall the app, it works again. But that is just too much of a hassle.

And I had about 1.5 gigs left, and about 2 gigs left on my SD Card. I noticed that for some reason, some of the apps automatically got moved to the SD card, but its still taking up space from the internal phone storage?

Strange, so probably that's not the reason... I thought I had less than 500mb in both the internal and external SD, but after the instalation I found myself with over 1gb free internal. So I thought that was it, but I might be misremembering the numbers...

To let you know they're on the SD card?

This is pretty common - you'll often find that apps that can be moved to the SD card still require some space on the internal memory. It all depends on their functionality and how they're coded: some apps allow you to move the whole thing to the SD card; some put the core on the internal memory and data on the SD card; some won't move at all.

Google has been pushing developers away from APPS2SD support, along with pushing manufacturers away from including SD card interfaces, so expect this to go away sooner rather than later. Samsung just threw a workaround in 4.3 because they're shipping 16GB devices which, after you subtract the space needed for the OS, leave you with 11GB (or less), and people were up in arms about that.

Sounds like I don't want this update. Phone works just fine now. It's showing up in notifications. Hopefully I can block it.

Yup, it's blocked.

One issue I notice different is in the mobile web. Before when hitting back button it would close my tabs. Now it just brings to home screen and when reopening there are still all tabs open

So anyone find a way around this?

Depends on if you have the 4.3 update, or not.

Well, I just went ahead and did a factory reset. I had it back up and running with all the same settings/data that I had before within 30 minutes. It's taking a while to re-download my apps (slow internet) but it has all been worth it because my phone feels "fresh" now. It is quite a bit quicker.

Re: Galaxy S3 4.3 update questions and issues!

Since the 4.3 update I get the disco flash when my phone rings, wtf? Also broke my Foxfi. Thanks Verizon. In the new year I am leaving Verizon for good, There has to be a better Provider.

Re: Galaxy S3 4.3 update questions and issues!

Check out the previous couple pages of this thread. I think both of those issues are addressed there. If not they're covered in a different thread. "Where's the 4.3 update for Verizon Galaxy S3?" has a lot of info in the last 7 or 8 pages.
Hops that helps

Re: Galaxy S3 4.3 update questions and issues!

So far I don't see anyone offering a solution to the battery drain. One of the key reasons I opted to download is because it was suppose to update radios and what I thought ment improve call or data service. So far none of that seems true and my battery drains much faster. I have power save on and even tried juice defender and it still seems to be killing the battery. I used to come home after a day of mixed use with 50/60 percent battery. I came home the other day on 18% and I barely used it. This phone now seems more like my nexus I had before this. Decent battery if I have full signal, but drains terribly when little to no signal. I understand that most phones drain faster when signal is bad, but before this my phone did great. I do believe it got a little better since the first day, but I am not sure if thats the seet time refered to here or my adjustments like JD and turning off stuff newly put on my phone from verizon.
