Verizon Galaxy S7 NOT working with Android Auto ...

Hello All,

I have an S7 att and pioneer 4100NEX. After this past 3 weeks of headache of the android auto not working, I've figured it out with my Car stereo guys.
We took apart the dash and plugged in a regular cable to the back of the deck and EVERYTHING WORKED from a cheap cable to a Samsung cable.

We had to try different connectors to verify the final install. Make sure it the cable is high quality enough and especially not a 6 foot cord. It should work. It sucks. My iphone with Car play didn't have those issues, but hey, that's what i get for switching.

I just joined today to say I found this thread after searching for a solution to my issues with AA and my new Galaxy S7. Like many of you I had issues getting it to work on my NEX 4100. The only solution I found was swapping my long USB cable with a shorter (and probably better made) one. Now it works perfectly 100% of the time.

I am not sure why my LG G4 worked with the longer cable but the S7 refused to work. So if you are still having issues, try a better cable. FWIW, the cable I was using was the 6 foot PAC USBCBL (plus a short cable to plug into it). The new one that works perfectly is the 3ft USB 2.0 A Male to Micro 5pin Male 28/24AWG Cable w/ Ferrite Core (Gold Plated) from Monoprice.

After reading some threads (including these) I found I could get my Galaxy S7 Edge to work with a couple of twists.

1) my extension didn't work. I had to connect my USB cord straight from the back of my Pioneer AVH4100-NEX. I'm using my old Galaxy S5 cord and it works fine. But with the extension, it didn't work.

2) after connected, I have to swipe down on the phone and change the charging to Media Transfer Protocol (MTP).

The support people at Pioneer say their Galaxy S7 defaults to MTP but according to Verizon and Samsung that's not possible.

I wonder if it is just the Verizon S7's that are not switching to MTP??? FWIW, my T-Mobile S7 works perfectly with the new cable. No messing with any settings before or after connecting.

same here, my Sprint S7 edge auto connects each and every time, when I was having cable issues, I tried the MTP thing, when I tried switching it to MTP, it disconnects, mine always says charging when successfully connected

I just tried this and it doesn't work for me. When I changed USB Configuration Options to MTP, the phone flickers and loads android auto, but then the head unit seems to freeze loading Android Auto and I notice the settings for USB Configuration reset back to default.

I tried this over and over and got the screen to show up where I need to click to agree to use the Android Auto, but it was frozen and not responsive.

Seems like this setting allows the phone to send just enough data to start the loading process on the deck, then it just locks up.

So overall this solution isn't working for me...

Hope they have an update soon.

Mike

I have the same problem Mike...although my AA was working perfectly with my Verizon S7 Edge up until today when it started doing what yours does, out of nowhere! I didnt reboot or uninstall or update anything to my knowledge. Now when I plug in my phone and change USB to MTP (as I had to before), it tries to load AA and looks like it's gonna load but immediately craps out and resets my USB setting to charge only. I tried unpairing my Chevy Volt MyLink from my phone in the Android Auto settings, but now it wont let me re-pair it. When I try, Android Auto pops up for half a second on my screen then closes. In the Android Auto app on my phone just just keeps telling me to connect a phone even though I'm already connected. So disappointing! I sent feedback to android-auto-feedback@google.com

Well that settles it. I was going to pick up a Verizon S7 Edge today but this has made me change my mind. 😤

I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 (not Edge) with Verizon and a Chevy Malibu 2016. Here are the steps I had to take to allow Android Auto to work (most of these people have already mentioned, but I am mentioning them again for completeness):
1. Get the March 2016 software update for my car - prior to this update, the steps below didn't yield any results.
2. Install Android Auto app.
3. Connect phone to car using cable. I have done this successfully with both the stock cable as well as a third party cable.
4. On phone, go to Settings | More (under Wireless and Networks) | MirrorLink | move slider to On.

Unfortunately, step 4 is required EACH time I connect my phone to the car. This is not an Android problem since my cousin's Nexus 6p works immediately.

I tried to call Samsung and they were not familiar with Android Auto. I called Chevy and they were not aware of the problem.

I wanted to post this to indicate that Android Auto does work with a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7, but it requires manual steps each time, which make it rather inconvenient. But once connected, it works as expected and it does not freeze for me.

So I decided to take a chance and try it. Bought the S7 Edge today and connected to android auto with no problem after I changed the USB setting to MTP. Glad I took the chance. I love this phone!

I do the same thing......unfortunately every time I shut the car off I have to reset the USB mode to MTP again. I wish it would just recognize my 4100NEX and automatically switch to that.

I have a Verizon Samsung G7 Edge and a Pioneer 8100 NEX. I have tried all of the solutions in this thread (USB Debugging, original factory cord, USB MTP setting, turning on Mirror Link). The furthest I get is that Android Auto will load to a black screen on the unit. I see that some people have had luck and others have had the same problem. Am I missing a step? I have tried multiple times with different cords and in different sequences with no success. Sometimes it says Android Auto can't connect right now and other times I get the black screen. I note some have said they connected directly to the back of the unit. Not sure if that makes the difference or not. Interested in any additional thoughts anyone may have. Thanks!

Yes, if you are not already, you need to connect directly to the back of the headunit, my Sprint S7 edge auto connects without fail to my 8100nex each and every time, I don't need to touch anything, plug the phone in, and it connects bringing up AA, no black screens or or freezing. I had all kinds of issues when I had a usb extension in use
