Verizon Galaxy S7 NOT working with Android Auto ...

Yes, if you are not already, you need to connect directly to the back of the headunit, my Sprint S7 edge auto connects without fail to my 8100nex each and every time, I don't need to touch anything, plug the phone in, and it connects bringing up AA, no black screens or or freezing. I had all kinds of issues when I had a usb extension in use

Thanks Scott. I will go back to my installer and have it re-wired and give it a shot. I hope that does the trick!

Google Play services pushed an update 2 days ago to Android Auto and I just tested and it's working again for my S7 Edge on my 2016 Chevy Volt. But due to stupid Marshmallow, I still have to change USB setting every time to MTP but at least AA isnt completely broken anymore.

When does everyone think there will be an update to Marshmallow to enable a MTP USB connection by default? Having to change it each time is already getting very annoying. I have played around with the developer settings and debugging. There is an option in the settings to change the default to MTP, which I have tried, but it only works once and then automatically switches back.

I also learned my lesson with the direct connection. I had a usb extension from my deck with my S6 Edge and everything worked fine. Now I have a direct connection and it works, but the changing the usb options every time getting old.

Again I am guessing it is carrier specific. No issues with M on my S7 (once I fixed the USB cable) and no issues on my LG G4 after the M upgrade. May be a good time to ask Verizon?

FWIW, I'm having the exact same problem on my S6 since I upgraded to Marshmallow on Verizon the other day. I'd been using the S6 with Android Auto for months with no problem in my 2015 Sonata. Now I have to trigger the USB setting every time I attach the phone.

I hope they get this sorted out fast. It's annoying enough to have to connect via USB that I don't use Android Auto all that much, but having to change the USB setting is really bad.

okay, I have the s6 not 7 and finally got it working pretty good. then verizon just updated my phone to marshmallow, now its not working. tried everything. seemed like it wasnt seeing the usb. went into developer , and usb was set to charge only, i can only change it while connected but it works. my question is is there a way to set it to mtp permanently or do i have to do this every time i use it?

I am connecting a Galaxy S7 Edge (SM-G935T) on a T-Mobile Network to an AVH-4100NEX (1.053) in a 2007 Mercury Grand Marquis. I can confirm that my connection was successful and I was able to use Google Maps, Spotify, and BeyondPod without error. Something different that I noticed with this phone was that I had to set a default setting the first time I plugged it into a computer, which I did prior to plugging it into my head unit. After plugging into my head unit, I had to press "Accept" on about 6 different permissions from phone logs, to messages, to media. Please note: I have USB Debugging turned on.

Let me know if you have questions,
Daerik

Hey Dearik I have similar setup except I use SPH-DA120 - how do you managed to do screen mirroring (assuming you did) or you just using MirrorLink compatible apps?

Sprint S7e here, auto connects smoothly to my Pioneer 8100nex, after the initial setup and giving several permissions, its been smooth sailing
Quick question. I have same device on same carrier with same stereo.. Are your physical skipbttack buttons working? Mine no longer change tracks in Google play music. Only the on screen buttons work. The buttons work otherwise.

I have an NEX 4200 installed in a 2015 brz (car shouldnt matter). I am using android auto with a Galaxy S7 (Verizon). I can confirm that it works perfectly once connected. In order to get it to work i enabled usb debugging and changed it to MTP mode to allow it to connect. Everytime you connect it to the headunit you need to enable MTP mode from the drop down menu. The only way to skip this step as of now is to root your phone and use a MTP enabler which makes MTP default. You cannot make it default from the developers settings. I am using a usb extender in order to connect the usb cord that my phone came with. Some people have had issues with extenders but have not had any.

I know all that information is in the thread but I wanted to summarize it for anyone on the fence of purchasing a NEX headunit unsure of it would work like just was. I am glad I took the risk!

Also, one more issue that I can think of is that the when you connect your phone, the amps comming from the head unit usb port is not enough to charge your phone. I havent done enough testing of this but my phone stays roughly the same as it was on battery as before I started my commute to work. One work around is to simply use bluetooth and another charger when your phone is running low. I am looking at other ways to solve this problem but I doubt I will find anything.

The charging issue may be partially due to your extension cable. The USB should keep the phone charged. Unless of course it is another issue with the Verizon version of this phone. With a good (and short) cable my 4100 charges my T-Mobile S7.

Can someone tell me how to change the USB from charging to media on a Tmobile S7...I seem to get everything to work with AA, But when plugged in my screen on headunit (avh-x3700bh) is all scrambled. Cant tell whats on screen. But you can look at phone and touch corresponding area on radio and phone reacts.. So its there and working Just scrambled and unreconizable

ps I have tried the MDU cable that came with radio, a aftermarket cable. Still need to try OEM charging cable that came with phone plugged in directly to H.U

That sounds very much like what I experienced before I changed USB cables. AA would start and sometimes only half the screen would show, other times it was full screen but unreadable, and other times it would load and then freeze. I suggest you try the OEM cable. Mine now works 100% of the time with my short Monoprice cable.

I just want to add one more data point to this. Similar situation to everyone else. I recently had a Pioneer AVH-4200NEX installed with an extension cable attached to the USB port. When I connected by S7 (T-Mobile) it would either be a black screen, an error, or, on rare occasions, Android Auto would start and then freeze. I tried a number of different USB cables (including OEM) and got the same results. I was able to connect an S5, S6, and Nexus 5 without any problems.

Following the recommendation of others, I took off the dash and connected the S7 directly to the head unit with the OEM USB cable. Android Auto ran flawlessly.

Clearly the S7 is ultra-sensitive to the USB cable being used. Does anyone know if this is a hardware or software issue with the S7? Any chance this gets fixed down the road by a firmware update?

Is there a cable out there that will work? My stereo is stock so I can't just pull it out and change it

I bought a USB data Cable from Verizon Wireless that works with my Galaxy S7 edge and 2016 Hyundai Tucson factory head unit. The cable has some small light at the end, and also charges my phone while working with Android Auto. I have had no issues whatsoever with this setup.

Believe it or not my GS7 is working great with my Android Auto with the Cadillac Cue system. Seems the usb port in the car was not hooked up properly. Properly connected the port and now everything works. Go figure!
