Verizon has begun "Corporate Discount Validation"

That is because the company you work for signed a new contract with Verizon Wireless which stipulates that people getting corporate employee discounts must verify employment.

It is not a change across all corporate accounts nor can it be. It would null void every single contract which is not something they will do and it will create a mass exodus of companies away from Verizon Wireless due to unprofessional business practices.

Either way Verizon has been talking about doing this in general so it's bound to happen. And voiding this discount does not nullify a contract because it's not part of the contract. You sign the contract prior to receiving any discount from your employer. You may get extra perks by having this agreement but in no way does it void a contract if taken away.

Still have the discount from them and I've been gone from that company for over 7 months. Try again

Att and T-Mobile do it. I know from experience.

We know it is a change across all accounts. This was something that leaked several months ago. This would not have any effect whatsoever on current contracts because the people that would be affected are not covered by the contracts to begin with.

I really don't understand why people are having an issue with Verizon doing this reverification. Receiving that corporate discount is contingent with you still being employed by that company. If you're no longer with that company, you don't deserve to get that discount anymore.

That is incorrect. Employee discounts is a section in corporate contracts. If it wasn't then carriers would not give discounts to people. They don't do it out of the goodness of their hearts.

It is a section in CORPORATE contracts. This includes the cellular contracts that are in service for use in the work place and paid by the company. As an employee, these companies work out a discount for their employees. The contracts of the employees, those not with a corporate phone plan, are not included in this original corporate contract. We are just beneficiaries whom happen to receive such a discount. This discount can be taken away from us at any moment. The contract calls for employees to get a discount - not former employees.

I love the argument, which to paraphrase says, "I'm committing fraud and no one has caught me, therefore they invite fraud!".

Actually, this is more like, I am currently committing fraud, and having doing so for years, but I am pissed that they are actively trying to root it fraud.

Our more like saying that at one time, you qualified for welfare and food stamps, but I stopped qualifying due years, however I still have been fraudulently claiming both for years now, I am pissed that they took away my food stamps. Really, they shouldn't have because I am still able to fraudulently receive welfare.

Fraud implies that the person is using fake documentation or other means to obtain the discount they aren't eligible for.

I don't blame Verizon for requiring reverification every year or whatever. In fact, I'm surprised they didn't do it sooner. However, to call it fraud to continue to receive the employee discount after leaving a job is extreme. It was merely a loophole that Verizon didn't seem to care about for many years.

My theory is that they left it in place as a pricing tactic to help discourage people from going to other carriers, but I may be way off on that.

Obviously, I don't think people are submitting false data, This is closer to fraud by omission. They knew that the discount was only for employees of a company, but when they left, they just failed to notify Verizon. Now, if it was accidental, then that's a different story. But some people know that they don't qualify for the discount, yet keep their mouths shut. Perhaps fraud is too strong of a word. But to me, at least they are misrepresenting by omission.

This is similar to when I got my note 2 for $37. Clearly, it was a mistake in price match. I could have just left it alone and said nothing, but I told the csr that he messed up the price match. I tried to explain several times but he didn't seem to care. But at least I did what I thought was right. I realize that some would do whatever it takes for financial gain, so long as they can get away with it. This just isn't me

I logged into My Verizon and was prompted to attach a pay stub or use a corporate e-mail address in order to keep my discount. Just a heads up for everyone!

Do you remember how you originally got your discount? How does the email verification work? Do they send you an email with a link for verification?

I used email originally and just logged in and do not see anything about this.

No, it isn't incorrect. If a person is no longer employed by the company, they are no longer entitled to the discount and not covered by any contract that may exist. That's not even mentioning the fact that the contract will surely state that only current employees are eligible for the discount, which gives Verizon enforcement power.

You sign up here, then they will send you a verification email. Once you verify your info, the discount will show on your account. You can also verify by pay check if you don't have work email

I know how to get the discount (I already have it). I was just curious as to how the new validation they are enforcing is going to be checked (via email). I'm assuming it will be similar but just wanted to make sure.

Since I don't have anything regarding this when I log on, I was also wondering if they are targeting certain folks first (perhaps people that did NOT use email orginally?).

Same process. Can be done via email or pay stub. You can do it now if you want to.

Verizon validated my corporate discount today so I'm all set after sending the paystub in electronically on Saturday. I switched my dad over from his old job (15%) to his new job which he has had since retiring (17%). So all in all this was beneficial for him anyways because it made me think about making the switch for him. :)

Say you had a union discount and you want to switch it to employer discount, how would you do that? If they ask for verification use the work email?
