Verizon is giving me a headache

i wish the note 3 would have done better for me on reception. Because thats what me and my father started with. There was 4 spots (2 of which are covered heavily with trees) both mine and my fathers note 3 would drop to 3g,where both are droid maxx's hold on to lte at the exact same spots. Although at one of those spots the maxx would drop to 121-122dbm's. I used the advanced signal status app on the note 3 to lock to lte only but it said no signal. But using the app with the droid maxx it stays connected on lte only. Im wondering if we both got a bad batch we did get ours on oct.10 the release date. Also i tried a factory reset on both phones. Ive also noticed on mine i didnt pay much attention to my fathers. But i got a touchwiz not responding issue a couple of times. also i think its normal but both our note 3's got hot around the camera. The 2 issues i see with the maxx is if im trying to download too many apps at once the play store will crash. The other issue is when i have several apps running in background and press the task switch button it takes a couple seconds to load its pretty annoying.

-120dbm is no signal.

Thats what i thought also but it would still be on lte. Probably because it hit that while i was in a moving vehicle so it would drop back to -119 dbm really fast. But it stayed connected while we past by that spot where the notes would drop from hitting that spot the whole road is covered heavily by trees and hills. The whole road is between -113-122dbm for some reason ive seen the droid maxx hit that low.

Hey dpham00 is it still possible to hit -121dbm ive seen it on this phone but only for a second but i guess it wasnt long enough to transition to 3g

I know it is possible, but theoretically 120 dbm is no signal. I have seen 123 before. But this is practically no signal. To me, at this point, I would rather have 3g than extremely flaky 4GLTE. For me, in these situations, 3g worked better than 4GLTE.

To me, it makes more sense to switch to 3g - better user experience and better battery life (pushing around 120dbm drains battery quickly). I notice battery life goes down dramatically during use once it hits around 115+.

Thanks. Since this is my second, note 3 being first, 4g phone i didnt know Thanx for the heads up. Hey i was wondering some people say they will switch from lte to 3g and they will go from low signal to almost full signal im not sure if im doing something wrong because if i switch from low lte signal i pretty much have low 3g signal also. I might sometimes have 1 more bar then lte but usually its around the same bars does this sound right. If so would 3g even with almost the same signal be more efficient than 4gLTE

I noticed that very weak 3g signal works better than very weak 4GLTE signal. Also, not all towers are 3g and 4GLTE. If you look at the attached, the LTE signal is substantially better than 3g.

i see, learning something new every or every other day :) so is the lowest lte and 3g signal -120 and the lowest voice signal -110? i used this app https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...s/details?id=de.android.telnet&token=d9QDWTbG
and the lowest signal it shows is -135dbm for lte and -110dbm for voice thats why i thought it was possible to get a working signal at -121-122dbm. The developer needs to update the app but thats why im happy their are forums to learn from. I didnt know until you informed me thanx :)

You might want to edit out your sim id. Are you able to browse the Web at this spot?

Tapatalk or there is the Android Central app. I prefer Tapatalk myself because it works with multiple Forums. Otherwise Android Central is just a modified Tapatalk app.

Btw, when you are seeing - 124dbm,did the speed test complete? Usually when I see anything around that, the Internet is extremely flaky. In fact, I removed the back cover on my old rezound which has the antenna in the back cover, and saw 123.

When i took this speed test it was in between -118 & -124 i was moving slowly when it was taken. My father was driving and he didn't want to stop so when the signal dipped to -124 i tried to hurry and take the test. So for more accuracy i will repost when i drive by myself and can stop.

i wish every android had multiscreen multitasking so i can have both up at the same time but i guess its only lg & samsung doing that

If it fluctuates then it makes sense since it is hunting for signal. Usually anything that is consistently 120 or less is not usable, in my experience. Though I can't force lte anymore in my note 3 after the update (i am not rooted)

Will test again when i am able to fully stop and keep it past -120dbm to see how long it holds a usable lte signal . Im curious myself about the results, will update when i get them. Its not much of a distance for me to get them i live like 1/4-1/2 mile from the spots.
