Verizon is giving me a headache

I considered that but:

Sprint is terrible.

T-Mobile works decent but drops calls randomly for my friends.

AT&T would be more expensive and I'd lose unlimited data.

So in all honesty where do I go? I have unlimited data on Verizon with a 17% corporate discount and $20 off my data plan each month. Over two weeks later and not one dropped call. :)

I agree on all points. especially the one about Sprint!

Personally I think that he could have gotten another phone as a warranty replacement with a bit of persistence , not a note 3, but some other device like the s4 or g2

But he just wanted to get it over with, and didn't want to settle for a phone other than the note 3

that makes sense. my primary point is that I would have been up a creek, had the same thing happened to me. I would have been extremely persistent, and courteous. so far, in 11 years with verizon, I have yet to be extremely disappointed by their customer/tech service. but then again, there is NO perfect carrier out there, is there? verizon is about as close as they come, and we can site numerous times just here on AC that they've hacked people off. but for my money, I must stay with them.

I have used other carriers before. They weren't really any better customer service wise than verizon. Network performance was worse too, but this was many years ago. Although based on my co-workers who drop signal on AT&T and T-Mobile at my work, whereas Verizon has good signal, I can say that Verizon is the right choice for my uses. There seems to be a lot of Verizon hate going around, more so than other carriers, and perhaps rightfully so as they have non friendly customer policies, but I would rather get good network coverage and lowest price (for my uses, which admittedly is atypical) than move to a carrier with more friendly customer policies.

Also, Verizon has given me inaccurate information on multiple occasions, tried to not honor their written policy (a rep insisted that the activation fee cannot be waived on any situation, even within 3 days which is explicitly stated in their policy and on the receipt). And a few bait and switch scenarios. Really, I think that they just want the easy Route, so they say they can't do it or whatever, but with some persistence, I am always able to resolve it at least to a fair decision.

No, in the end they wouldn't offer me a Galaxy S4 or anything at all. It was wishful thinking and they said it was a no go when I tried doing so. My options were as follows:

Buy a phone at full retail

Sign a contract and lose unlimited data and get any phone I want for $100 less than asking price.

Deal with the Maxx.

Walk away

I don't know how much further I could have gone. I was in contact with corporate relations and those above results were my choices. None were good.

The Verizon hate arises from 2 issues IMO - the discontinuation of unlimited data plan upgrades and the fact that for most people, Verizon is the most expensive option so when they pay more for something they expect better customer service.

And yes, the fact that Verizon offers you the lowest prices for your uses is indeed atypical.

When I first started reporting my troubles with the GNex, I was offered a CLNR GNex. When that wasn't any better, I was offered a free network extender (which is a terrible solution for someone living in attached housing with neighbors on verizon).

Then I was offered a Razr (which wasn't comparable to my phone spec wise since it wasn't HD) or an early upgrade (which would cause me to lose unlimited data) but I asked for and was given CLNRs again (which of course didn't fix the issue since the GNex's problem was a hardware problem).

Subsequently the OS upgrade broke the blue tooth and then they end of lifed the GNex rendering the blue tooth on the GNex unusable unless you unlocked the bootloader and flashed a custom ROM (which would void my Asurion protection). At that point the only thing I was offered was an early upgrade (which again, would cause me to lose unlimited data) and finally they offered to let me out of my contract (with only 2 months remaining).

I am certain for those of us with an UDP, as time goes on they are not going to help us much with our phone problems because they want us off of the UDP. We will likely only be offered early upgrades and to be let out of contract in an attempt to accomplish that.

I agree with most of that. Verizon, for me, has given above average customer service. however, the OP's experience is a case in point that they can be as difficult as any other carrier, and it's magnified by the fact that they typically are the most expensive. I have since gotten over the fact that my unlimited data is gone, as I share 10GB with my wife. I had a very vicious and lengthy "discussion" with a guy on phone arena about a year ago, about this very thing. Verizon has something I want. it's up to ME to pay for it, or go with another carrier. I choose to pay for it.

people are always gonna find something to gripe about. you want verizon coverage, but you want Walmart straight talk pricing. it doesn't work that way.

True, but if I am paying Neiman Marcus level prices, I want Neiman Marcus level customer service.

And I think the fact is that for those of us with UDPs, we are not going to get it because they want us gone.

That and Verizon said because I'm eligible for an upgrade that's my option. Of course most of us with Unlimited Data are eligible for an upgrade so your point is valid there. My issue was I wasn't willing to compromise and give up the unlimited data. Its not worth it. I've used 13.5 Gigs with 11 days to go. Netflix while away from home is a killer lol.

Verizon offeres Neiman Marcus level network service, but everything else is just so so.

Ah, that makes sense. Since you are off contract, in their eyes, you can just upgrade. Of course you would lose unlimited...

You could add a line to convert your plan to a family share plan, get a subsidized phone on the new line, then transfer the upgrade from the unlimited line to the non unlimited line, then etf the new line and revert back to an individual plan. Then sell the second phone to recoup the etf cost.

Well doing so puts your unlimited line on contract again. So they cannot tell you to use your upgrade, since you don't have one. Of course, they would probably tell you to edge up, but at least you have a stronger stand when asking for an alternate replacement phone.

True, but oh well. I've learned never to trust Motorola again and stick with Samsung. ;)

Verizon pushed an update to the s3 that royally messed up connectivity. Same with the Thunderbolt.

So now, if you don't go with Samsung, Motorola, or HTC, then your selection is limited...

True, any manufacturer could mess up their device. It just hits closer to home when the issue happens to you so you dislike it from now on. Lol

That seems to be the common thread. Many people hate a brand because of a bad experience with a previous product.

Good reason to dislike a brand. Personal experience is the best way to try out a device for better or worse.

meh, all manufacturers put out lemons. If someone were to rate Samsung forever on the GNex, well, you would never buy a Samsung again.
