Verizon Launch Delayed..(rumors)

They put this awesome operating system in a phone that, for the most part, is over 6 months or more behind other new phones coming out.....I just can't get over how weird that is. After their presentation was over, we all were left wondering when this product would be released, how much it would be, and why they included a barometer. I would have liked an explanation as to why they were including a 5 MP camera when all the other phones that came out recently have 8 MP cameras. So now, nearly 2 weeks after their announcement we are all still scratching our heads wondering what carrier it will be on and when the hell is it going to be released. I'm just curious if they are still stumbling around trying to get this thing finalized on a phone that is practically 6 months old what have they messed up on?

I'm not going to argue that they have perhaps missed a chance to take away people that have gone after the 4s, but...

a) which new phone is the Nexus 6 months behind?

b) barometer = GPS assist

c) more MP /= more quality

specs like 10MP camera, 1.5 GHz dual core, sd card slot, 1.5 gig RAM etc, better screen, better battery etc.

The only time anyone is going to make that phone you described is if there are rumors of a 20MP camera, 2 GHz quad core phone. In other words, you'll never be able to buy the exact phone that you want, unless you figure out how to build your own. And the tech in the Nexus is not at all old, it's just that the never ending rumor mill is already talking about non existent future ware, making us think that this phone is already old school...it's not. For what the market is actually producing right now, it's cutting edge. But the bottom line is that if it's not the phone that you want to buy, or it doesn't come out when you want it to, get something else. There are a ton of great devices to choose from, though as I said before, none will be exactly what you want. It's all about getting the device that has the most of what you're looking for.

How is the Nexus 6 months behind the GSII? The only component its ARGUABLY worse in is processor - and that's just because people have gotten religiously loyal to the Exynos.

I didn't say I agreed with it.. thats my best guess at what that other person thinks.

I agree with the comment of terrible marketing. Put it this way, I have a buddy that works for Verizon in DC doing government sales. He usually has a fairly new Android phone since he gets a phone and returns his old one whenever he wants. I was talking to him and he mentioned he's going to get the Rarz on release. I ask him if he planned on getting the GN and he said "the what?"....I just laughed.

In his defense he's not an Android freak like us so he's not browsing the forms looking for Android stuff. But you'd think he'd have heard about it, staff meeting or something.

depending on what rumors you believe, quad core is coming to phones this summer...something in that range is what i would call 6 months ahead....and there's nothing like that out now, or for a while

I would call it terrible marketing. I'd call it no marketing. They had a software event in Hong Kong. Verizon sent out a press release on the worst possible day of the week. The phone is being treated like an afterthought.

Not really surprising though. Most people have never heard of Nexus. The phone manufactures don't want a vanilla phone to gain traction. They want Sense, Blur, and TouchWiz.

So true. This is going to be a great device, and the first ever to run ICS. It's ridiculous that it's not been showcased a little more, let alone the fact that we still don't have a release date.

Verizon is not pushing this phone (nor will they) because it's not loaded down with their bloat. They don't make any substantial revenue from phone sales...it's all service and the extras (like ripping us for mobile hot spot). They have no financial incentive to promote this phone. That said, I'm not a bloat hater, nor should any of us be. It's all that revenue that allows Verizon to have the best US network and work on things for the future like 5G.

Google's marketing is atrocious. I love their devices but, they've got a long way to go in the consumer experience business. I almost rather they would have kept everything secret, then when the phone was ready in November, have a announcement and, release it the next week.

They always leak or announce things several weeks to months in advance then, have us all lingering and waiting wtih rumors and speculation. The speculation & rumors build up and, when the product is finally announced, sometimes people are disappointed.

the light is on the bottom along with the headphone jack (which by the way I hate the placement of both) as I use my devices for music while I work out it and in the car through the headphone jack I get concerned about stress on the port sitting in my cupholder... definite failure point as I had one go back for that already..
Does the GN auto-orient in all 4 positions? If so, seems like you could just put it upside-down in your cupholder.

For the new phone comment I was meaning phones that are coming out in November with faster processors, external memory slots, 10 MP camera etc...and even some that are already out. The barometer thing was figured out after they initially mentioned it in their presentation. My point was that I don't feel that they did much on talking up the phone specs. I watched the Google/Samsung presentation but after seeing it I still didn't come away feeling that it was a better or more advanced camera than other ones on the market. I know MP's aren't everything but dabbling in photography I do know that you can do more with a 10 MP image when compared to a 5 MP image (zooming / cropping etc) I just wished they would have explained the 5 MP camera more...especially with so many other phones having 10 MP's. I know people are speculating that it has better optics but I don't specifically remember them saying this.......I hope so though because 5 MP would be fine with me if this was truly the case. It also concerns me a bit that they didn't put any image stabilization with this camera, which I think is a huge deal since its such a thin and light phone. Even though a lot of people were disappointed with the iphone, they still experienced record sales and I think part of that was because Apple made it clear what people were buying. As of right now, I am dead set on the Galaxy Nexus being my first smartphone because I hate the whole itune interface and the restrictive Apple software. I just wish they would have been more thorough with their presentation and for God's sake put a damn definitive date on the product.

You have not even tried the damn device out, bottom line. I don't understand why people who don't like the specs and bash the device are posting in the sub forum for it? No need for it at all, this is a place for people who WANT the device.

but the light is quite noticeable.. and works fine just kind of weird to have to look at the bottom to see it..

The headphone jack on the bottom is probably the only design thing I don't like about this phone. They did it with the Nexus S, now with this phone and, I don't understand why.

The good thing for me is, I have some nice bluetooth stereo headsets, that I can use at the gym or at work. I can listen to music and answer calls.

Just got an email from Verizon about pre-ordering the Razr. The worlds thinnest and most powerful DROID yet. We will never see this cause the Nexus isn't a DROID. I replied I don't want that when can I get a Nexus :) (I know its a do not reply email but wth lol)

From what I understand this is a forum to voice your input on the Verizon Launch Delay and rumors. If you were talking about me, I wasn't bashing the phone....this is the one I want. I'm just a bit disappointed in its spec's compared to other phones released and being released. We all can't gush on every product man..

Which part of the specs is disappointing for you?
Never understood why people get caught up with specs and get disappointed before they even tried the phone!
Clock speed means nothing just look at the iPhone 4S @ 800Mhz running smooth as butter. It's the Software-Hardware optimization, and lack of skins and bloatware that will improve your performance.

I hope you're not getting the phone just for benchmarking.

lol... I think just about everyone's decisions are based on specs man....of the phone and specs of the OS. There's no doubt that this phone will be a fantastic phone. I guess its like another person on here said ... with all the months of speculation and rumors going around you kinda get built up for a certain thing and then your hit with reality. I think most people wanted the original specs .... 1.5 GHz processor, 10 MP camera, external memory slot, 1 gig ram, gorilla glass etc. This phone stands apart for one big reason.... ICS....but I'm still ready to go with it. So Verizon....get your ass in gear!!!
