Verizon LG G2: Word on KitKat?

LG stated, in chat anyway, that the update is only available via OTA, that the update tool. doesn't work. sigh...even they (or some of them) don't follow forums huh?

What windows os are you running? For those wondering I have the black phone. When I attempted to download the Verizon upgrade assistant on my windows 8 PC it started to load and at the end aborted due to a corrupt image. Windows 8 blows, I'm sure any os but 8 will do the trick.

The new 8.1 update. The upgrade assistant installed fine, no corrupt image or anything. And it runs, and checks my device, but never adds my G2 to the device list or show an update for it. I've seen others with Windows 8.1 who said it worked fine for them.

In general I've had no problems with Windows 8, still won't say I really like the metro/modern aspect, but the latest update added improvements

Why is everyone in such a hurry? The actual OTA should be out in a few days at most, and it'll me much easier to install. This is identical to the leaked rom on XDA right? In that case, I think its much better to install xdadebb's custom rom with a fully patched root/recovery, for those who are rooted.

I do have TWRP as my recovery... so what do I do? And thanks for your response!

Over in the xda forums they have a "back to stock" tutorial using a tot file. Only issue you will have to flash software 11a then ota 12b to get your phone back to pure stock to take this 24a kitkat update.

Are you using your factory lg USB cable? I could not get it to recognize my phone in that list until I got the factory cable.

I'm using my original LG cable. I still think it has something to do with the hardware numbers on the white model. Yeah, I know it sounds dumb, but everyone else has the black phone, no issues. I'm waiting for the OTA. If that doesn't come in time, I'll actually believe my dumb theory about color makes a difference.

Ahh ok, so would you recommend I just wait for the OTA then? Or either way would I still have to revert back to stock first the way you described?

Yes, I dont know of any other way to flash the stock recovery. Your update will surely fail, that is if you dont brick.

It's new, other people have it and I don't. Not fair, I want it now! Hah.

I rooted my last few android phones, but nothing on the G2 has seemed bad enough to warrant it for me so far. But there are a few apps and things that are kitkat only that I want to play with so I'm excited to get it.

I'm a flashaholic and haven't even rooted my G2 yet, clearly something is wrong with me. Yes, I also want to run the new camera, but I'm going to wait a few days for things to stabilize and new roms to pop up on XDA.

Digging the transparent notification bar and navigation buttons! But is it correct that there is no developer option to use the ART run-time? I'm not seeing that option where it was on my Nexus 7.

Just remember when you receive the ota you will brick if you try to install with twrp as your recovery, you are going to have to go back to pure stock sometime.

Yea I would have made that mistake if I didn't ask here first, so thanks again for saving me from a big headache!

Tried it on a different laptop, Vista vs Windows 8.1 with the exact same results. The update assistant runs, says checking device, then nothing
