Verizon messed with the WiFi Toggle in the notification area

That ongoing notification doesn't go away? Is there a way to disable it? That's a cause for rooting day 1. I hate when crap is in the notification area.

+1 I'm curious to know if it is constantly there as well.

I would assume it is. Unless (as another posted suggested) this was Verizon's way of getting around the WiFi toggle bug on some other GS3s, then this is an absolutely horrible software feature.

Just add the power controls widget or download a third party widget. Problem solved.

Is Verizon trying to discourage me to use wifi? That is fine with me. I guess I'll not use wifi at all.

The "WiFi notification" does stay in your pull down notification bar. I haven't found a way to get rid of it or make it one of the toggles up top.

I realize there are many options for toggles, but it would be nice to have WiFi as one of these toggles so you wouldn't have to use an add on app.

They don't have to turn on the phones. They tell Samsung what changes and bloat they want on their version.

It's not just software. I once owned the Verizon version of the HTC Touch Pro (Windows Mobile), and Verizon put the "M" key to the right of the comma, rather than between the "N" and the comma.

Why? Who knows? The other carriers all released phones with the M in the right place. It's as if Verizon held a pre-release meeting to find a way to make everyone hate the phone.

Since the Droid Incredible 4G has this same issue, I don't think that it is a device-specific issue. It might be a permanent feature to go along with the "Share Your Money with Verizon Plans."

That's awful. I guess it's not possible to have an all around good experience.

Incredible coverage, horrible phone crippling and software. Thanks, Verizon.

Is there a brightness toggle the sprint version doesn't have one.

It bugs be because it wouldn't have taken up more space now that it's an ongoing notification. Even if your connected, it's always still there... :(

Samsung just released an OTA update for the international version today: Samsung Galaxy S III adds brightness toggle to notification area in OTA update - SlashGear

I'm sure the US versions will receive the update, but now the question is when.

The wifi notification shows up on Page 25 of the Verizon Galaxy S3 manual so it's definitely purposefully done that way as a "value added feature" You'll notice that wi-fi is not mentioned at all either (on this page or the following that continues the Settings section).

According to many tech sites today the S3 isn't the only device to do this. The Droid Incredible 4G has the same thing as well and it's not removable.

Going to take a guess that this will be the new norm for verizon going forward. They really just can't leave well enough alone. It only goes away if wifi is on. Likely to encourage more people to use wifi instead of their network.

That's just how Verizon works these days & always will till they are smacked in the mouth by a real competition, the Govt, or Subscribers themselves. OEMs & OS makers alike are bound to this in order to use their highly built out LTE network....unless of course you're Apple then well all that changes & part of the reason Verizon has made change after change since inking a deal with apple. Just nonsense if you ask me

oh Verizon you kill me. How could you ruin something so simple and universally loved like this wifi feature? Seriously, what is wrong with you Verizon? You can fix this you know... Release a patch to put things back to normal
... You know... Normal? Just put the wifi button back with the other buttons and get rid of the stupid notification thing you put in there. People don't like what you have done here. Sheesh!

I'm just glad that it went away on its own.no more annoying on going notification.
