Verizon- pie update?

Probably the battery optimization. Some apps shouldn't be put to sleep.
I turned off Battery Optimization for the app and and cleared cache and data and now it's working again. Not sure which actually fixed it as I didn't test inbetween each setting change though.

What's the latest you have heard with regard to the pie drop from big red Icey? We still looking at the end of the month?

I asked on Twitter and Verizon claims it's up to Samsung and if I wanted more info to contact Samsung 🤦*♀️🤦*♀️🤦*♀️

Dang, the Gmail notifications stopped working again after a few hours. Any idea what else it might be? Should I do a factory reset later? Work is going to stink today if I have to manually check my email every 5 minutes.

Try uninstalling the gmail app then reinstall see if that works.

Yeah, tried that, same result. Also another weird thing, all my paired Bluetooth devices (Gear S, 3, two headset, laptop, mouse, and tablet) disappeared randomly. Easy enough to redo but never had that happen before.

Looks like a factory reset is probably the answer at this point. Something isn't gelling with the update as is.

You can try that , sometimes new OS updates change settings for some unknown reason

Yeah they must of found a bug.

It boggles my mind that these companies can't find these bugs until the update is actually released. They do enough testing you would think that anything show stopping would be caught immediately.

what I read is that they were adding RCS texting to the pie update, so what does this mean for other updates? Appears the carriers have some ability to add and take away from the update packages? Where does that leave verizon note 9 sideloaders, if verizon is doing something simular? Some on XDA were saying that if this happens we would have to odin back to Oreo in order to get the new package. Not sure what that means or how to do that?

I'm of the opinion that after doing any major update, especially an entire UI overhaul like going from Oreo to Pie, no matter how you do it be it OTA or sideload from an SD card you should do a factory reset. There's so many posts about bugs in this thread but I haven't experienced any of them. JMHO

You know what I think it is , Samsung probably been testing this for few months but carriers usually end up testing them last before its released to us so they dont get the months of testing that Samsung does then when they find a bug now they have to work with Samsung engineers to solve it . That's why unlocked firmware gets late because all 4 carriers have to put a pass on theirs and then Samsung knows ever ok and you can use the unlocked version on any carrier.

If they change the build number the ones that sideload it should receive a update also . If you look at Att and sprint they have same build numbers on pie plus February patch should be coming shortly probably with more bug fixes .

Exactly why I'll just keep waiting for the OTA update from Verizon.

Are you inferring that carriers are using their customers as beta testers for a 'finished' product?

Say it ain't so!
