Verizon S5 - how to block OTA update?

Yeah, I accidentally clicked "install now" but pulled the battery before it started. any way to save it? I am NOT rooted.

I also tried to boot into recovery mode but when I Hit volume up, home + power at the same time, it goes straight to "system update"

Just find the original .TAR release of the Verizon S5 (google Odin S5 restore) and odin back to the original release. Then towelroot to get root back to your device. My S5 was so new that it came with the new update that wouldn't allow towelroot to work so I did this method and it works flawlessly, tested multiple times.

I am wanting to do that also.
I am pissed that with the new Verizon update, I cannot turn off "My Magazine". I had it turned off in the original firmware, now they won't let you.

I also have run into a few other things that irk me about the new update....

I am very nervous about bricking my only phone. Not having done this before. I have read that with Odin it is too easy to seriously brick a phone... am I just over reacting to some negative posts on it?

Used towelroot successfully to root an S5 but then it started with varous "unfortunately xxx has stopped functioning" messages. I did a factory reset then traded it in at Verizon for a new one. Too bad, that replacement has a ROM date that is newer than what towelroot can handle so now it's time to downgrade the OS.

Appreciate the info here, so after a downgrade of the android ROM I'll use towelroot BUT...
where can you get a stock Verizon ROM without having to go through an endless trail of stupid spammy websites that download at 100Kbps??? Or are we stuck with paying someone for hosting a site with ROMs?

I needed some files a couple days ago.
I was greeted with:
Free-
donate $2
donate $4
donate $6
donate $8
donate $10

I started out with Free and noted that it would take 2 hours 45 minutes to download the file.
So, I cancelled that out and donated $2 and noted that reduced the time by half.

someone has to pay the web hosting expense, choose your poison.

If you have never downloaded an mp3 or a movie or anything copyrighted, I value your input.

ROMs don't come under the category of intellectual property AND I have already paid thousands of dollars for them (and so have you).

If someone has a website, PM an ftp login and I will gladly upload Verizon's April 2014 ROM SM-900V, no donation required.

Follow these instructions: or just 5 and 6
1. Take the NCG to NE9 OTA Update or flash the G900VVRU1ANE9 Retail tar in PDA slot in Odin(AP in Odin v3.09+).
2. Place your phone into "Download Mode" (press and hold the Home, Volume Down, and Power keys until the phone powers on and displays warning screen, then press Volume Up key).
3. Flash the G900V_NCG_Stock_Kernel using Odin's PDA slot(AP in Odin v3.09+).
4. Root using Towelroot.
5. Power off then boot into "Download Mode" again.
6. Flash the G900V_NE9_Stock_Kernel also in Odin's PDA slot(AP in Odin v3.09+). Done!

Hmm not sure how this was better than my answer but seeing as how its over two years old, guessing I shouldnt care but my method works flawlessly across the board for any version of the Verizon S5. It allows you to revert to the earlier releases when TowelRoot worked before Verizon plugged the exploit.
