Verizon S5 Lollipop Bugs

DO NOT UPGRADE!!!! I picked up a brand new phone last Thurs. Galaxy S5, Friday, lollipop update installed, can not send a text messages AT ALL!!! I get them but can not send. 3 days on the phone with Verizon tech support, they now tell its a "KNONWN ISSUE" update needed but don't know when it will be released.

The only issue I have so far is regarding volume. It took me a while to find in the settings how to change notifications volume. I also can't seem to find how to keep my phone on mute for a set time period. I used to be able to use the blocking settings for while I was sleeping and now the option is gone and I have no clue how to set it up with the new upgrade. Help!

They changed the name (helpful info to have!). Go to settings -> Sounds & Notifications -> Interruptions. Then set your "priority interruptions" & the period you want it in effect. After 1 night of being woken by notifications, it I spent the time trying to figure this out!! Hope it helps :)

Try a factory reset on your S5. That's your best bet for getting it fix if you've tried everything else. Verizon had a lot of problems with Lollipop, I have them too.

My lollipop story...
I can't stand Lollipop. I originally downloaded it about 2 weeks ago. Had issues from the start. It was so glitchy. I'd say a 10 second lag to do anything. Messages weren't being sent, Facebook was a joke, Chrome was slow, and the lock screen... Yea that was completely pissing me off. So I wiped my cache. That didn't help much. I was told to do a factory reset. I don't have much on my phone that isn't on my SD card, so I'm like, what the heck. Did the factory reset. Still had the same issues. Battery life for me wasn't all that bad. I mean I expected it to drain faster. I couldn't handle the lag/glitches anymore. I did a google research and saw this great tutorial on how to downgrade to kitkat. So thats what I did. It was a freakin miracle!! I went a whole day with absolutely NO lag/glitches. Everything was at lightning speed. I was so damn happy. Then the pop up started. "Upgrade to Lollipop" I was like... maybe I should give it a 2nd chance. I did that on Friday afternoon. My phone was heating up like crazy. Wouldn't connect to anything. Bluetooth was a joke. Facebook crashed like 6 times... no lie. To the point were I went to the verizon store and I was like, "you need to do something, I can't handle it anymore". Since I'm not due for an upgrade they couldn't help me. I went home, downgraded yet again to Kitkat and now its smooth sailing. I am NOT going to upgrade again. I can't handle it. I want a phone that works. Oh and my battery life?? Yesterday I went to bed and it was 80%. Thats with playing a game, texting, fooling around on my launcher, downloading apps. Its a miracle! :)

it's a rather lenghthy procedure but I have figured it out.
first put your volume all the way down. then turn it up just a little bit. press the Settings icon on the top right. Check the box next to only allow priority interruptions. click on the word settings. a screen will come up that will show what are priority interruptions. I keep everything unchecked. It will tell you that alarms are always priority interruptions. Press the volume down all the way. It will say no interruptions even alarm but your alarm will still sound now in silent try testing that out.

Why fix what isn't broken? I've had nothing but issues after the update. Normally before I go to sleep I put my phone on mute so I don't get notifications in the middle of the night but after the update if your phone is set to mute the alarm will be disabled completely. This has caused me to miss my alarm to be late for work twice already, I took my phone to a Verizon rep and even he couldn't figure out how to get the alarm to sound while on mute either. We also tried installing a third party alarm clock but that did not resolve the issue either, extremely annoying.

The only way to have the alarm sound while under mute is if you click the gear icon after you press the volume button all the way down until it is under the mute option and under "No interruptions (not even alarm)" you select the option under Indefinitely (should be set to 1 hour by default) then set the time for how long No interruptions will occur for. Note that you can only have it set to not interrupt for at least 15 minutes at minimum and you have to set this every single time you go into the mute option.

Also, I liked in the previous version the notification icons that appeared even when the screen is locked in the upper left hand corner of the screen. Now just the text "Verizon Wireless" appears and you have to unlock your phone just to see what type of notification it was that you received. After doing some digging into the settings it appears they removed that feature as well. I've been a loyal Droid user for awhile now and this is by far the worst update I've ever come across, I'm going to have to use my old Droid Razr Maxx as my alarm just to make sure I have a reliable alarm clock, good grief. I'm almost ready to switch to an iPhone.

I still have KitKat (I get a request to upgrade every day and I just tell it tomorrow). I have heard many people complain about the mute issue. I don't know if it would work in your case but if possible maybe you could not put the phone in mute but install an app that blocks whatever makes noice in the night. I use an app called aFirewall and it automatically blocks calls and texts between whatever hours I set. My email app also allows for a quiet time so I do not get disturbed. This may not cover every situation for you but this is all automatic. If you have other apps that make noice maybe they have a quiet time or there is an app that you can install which will make it quiet.

Just a thought!

Notifications for all lollipop changed from the small icons to ones with more content (although you can adjust it to just show no content, or app by app). Go to Settings-->Sounds and Notification, then at the bottom got o "while locked" and select show all content (which will show a summary of the notification on the home screen) or Hide Sensitive Content (to hide email, message, etc contents). When your phone is locked, the latest few notifications will show us as white bars in the middle, and below that you will see your icons. Swipe down on the white bars to open a specific notification, or swipe down on the icons to expand the screen so that you can expand any notification. Tap a specific notification to launch directly to that app.

I still have not upgraded to Lollipop and notifications for me to do it have stopped. So I think I will wait until version 5.1 is available
