Verizon S9+ Unable to set individual SMS notification tones

Since Samsung decided to go nuts I dropped the native SMS and went to Handcent Next SMS which does allow you to have different text message tones. Another option for those looking for one.

Hi, I'm in Canada and we have the same problem with my S9+. I'm very disappointed since I had different tones for my SMS, kids, girlfriend, parents, friends and even voice mail.
I hope they'll put it back as an option.

Ho, yeah! I forgot, I had the S7 Edge and I should have kept it.

I haven't gotten a update yet for my s9 plus and I don't have the option so it wasn't the update you got.
I was on the phone with 3 Samasung agents today for roughly 3 hours. They logged into my Verizon S9+ and we all went through all the settings and looked at all possible options for getting the option for personalized notification tones back, but it was to no avail. One agent switched out for a higher ranking one and she said that Oreo for the S9's is very new and they are having some issues. She acknowledged that the notification tones are a big issue for people. They will be pushing out patches between now and October and they asked that I be patient and see if one the patches, coming out soon will fix this problem. They are aware of it and will hopefully get it out soon.

I hope this helps some of you. It's still frustrating, but now I know tons of people have been complaining.

Thanks. That's some patience. No way I would have wasted 3 hours letting agents mess with my phone only to come to the same answer we already knew. Hopefully though it will return though. I dont use it personally as I almost always have my phone on vibrate but it seems tons of people use it.

I've used Textra for messaging for a long time, and highly recommend. Changes the notification sound and led color for each of my important contacts. Makes it easy to see who it's from, even with the sound off. Kinda wish there were more led color options (as if I really have that many friends)

I have an S8 --- I installed the Samsung update last night and all of my custom text message tones are gone and there's no option to change them (as has already been stated, but I'm hopping mad, so I wanted to say it again!)

I hope the Samsung gods read these boards and know how annoying that is. I love that feature; and when I'm at work, or driving, it's great to know if it's a message that needs immediate attention, or one that I can wait to read later.

I don't want to switch to another messaging app, as all of my message threads are already in Messenger.

Yes, I too am very sad. I absolutely have always used the individual text tones so that I know when its my children and which one. I use the zedge app also but it doesnt matter the feature is not available on th ed S9 plus. I cant understand why they would remove it!! Has anyone figured out how to use the AR emojis???

So received my S9+ yesterday and was very impressed with the switch from my S8. All of my settings apps, etc seemed to seemlessly come over. Everything was great until I noticed my incoming texts lost their custom tones. Like many - I dont want to look with every incoming text or notification who is texting me - so I prefer individual tones for specific contacts. I tried in vain for hours to find the settings - to no avail. I called samsung - this feature is not available on the new S9 and S9+?!?! Seriously - it's been on every galaxy phone since my S3?! I rely on this ... anyone find a way to get it back?

I got my new Samsung 9 today and this was driving me crazy as well. I spoke with T-Mobile and with Samsung. Samsung told me to go to any Best Buy and ask for the Samsung Live Representative. They will do a software recovery for free. It's a glitch regarding Google Oreo. Hope this helps.

I think you have to go into contacts click on the specific contact and then have to click the top right to change things, scroll down and it should have the option for ringtone and also for notification sound and you can change it

This is no longer an option.

Did this work by any chance? I am STILL unable to set this and it's maddening.

My S8, which I gave to my wife, was OTA upgraded to Oreo and I saw the same thing happened. It is definitely the Oreo 8.0

Well, it's Samsung Galaxy Overlay on Oreo 8.0 - my son has a Pixel 2XL and can set notification tones by person - albeit not from the contacts app used by Samsung. They must've overlooked this. Hopefully it gets corrected quickly as it's really annoying on a such a nice device.
