Verizon S9+ Unable to set individual SMS notification tones

Go to My Files, internal storage. If there is a Media folder, open it (if not, create it) and if there is a Notifications folder, open it (if not, create it)

Copy your sounds into this folder & they will be available as a custom notification sound

I use zedge for 3rd party notifications. I'm also switching from my 8+ to 9+ when it arrives. I screen shot all my notifications I use from zedge and re download them to the 9+ and set them to specific contacts.

Zedge will not do it anymore on the S9+.....no option to set a contact notification tone, only a contact ringtone. I hate this too. I hope Samsung provides an update to allow contact notifications again.

You have got to be joking. Who makes phone calls anymore? It's 2018... We text. Custom ringtones don't help. Why the heck woul they get rid of custom notifications? #fail

I have an S8 --- I installed the Samsung update last night and all of my custom text message tones are gone and there's no option to change them (as has already been stated, but I'm hopping mad, so I wanted to say it again!)

I hope the Samsung gods read these boards and know how annoying that is. I love that feature; and when I'm at work, or driving, it's great to know if it's a message that needs immediate attention, or one that I can wait to read later.

I don't want to switch to another messaging app, as all of my message threads are already in Messenger.
Use Textra. All of your existing messages will be available in it when you install it. It brings them in.

All you have to do is go into settings go into notifications go to advanced pick messages the click where it says general notifications and in there it'll give you an option to change your ringtone. Do not hit slider

That will allow to change the overall tone for all text messages. Before Samsung's Oreo update you were able to select individual text ringtones for each contact. Samsung deleted this from their Oreo build and now only lets you select indivial ringtones for calls.

Only that's not what we are talking about here.

I updated my Galaxy S8 before traveling internationally, per the directions on the Sprint site. Previously, I had the field and ability to set individual text notifications per contact, so I would know from whom I was receiving texts. Now, that feature no longer exists, and it's extremely frustrating. So, I don't think it's an S9 issue; I think it's an Oreo update issue.

I sent a tweet and a direct message to Sprint and @SamsungSupport and this is what I received. Sorry, I couldn't figure out how to add the screen shot to this thread:

"Hi, Jersey. Thanks for reaching out. I understand that this feature is important for you, however, this is one of the changes occurred after the updates. Nevertheless, we value your feedback regarding this feature, you may use this link to voice out your input: https://t.co/BoCvDkfBlv. If you have other questions, feel free to ask. ^Justine"

Were you able to assign the notification tones to contacts? There isn't an option on the contact...

I sure hope it is soon! Very disappointing to have this option taken away on such a great new device. I really miss my personalized text tones!!

I found that if you use message+ from Verizon (the red one not the yellow Samsung one ) you can customize the notifications

It's not only on the S9 and S9+. I upgraded my S8 to 8.0.0 and it is no longer an option for me either. I hope they fix this issue soon as I too like to know who is texting without looking at my phone. Who can we contact about this?

Question? You say the Textra app does work and let's you have customize ringtones, however, I downloaded it and set the ringtone, but still no sound with incoming text. I checked all the settings and everything appears to be right. Do you have any advice that can help me?

That does work! I tried a couple of other SMS apps and I kept getting a message "IN order to get notifications on your Gear S3 your default messaging app will be changed to Messages" which is the Samsung default app.

Thanks!

I use signal which has this function. I suggest installing a 3rd party app for SMS if this is a must have

I think you have to go into contacts click on the specific contact and then have to click the top right to change things, scroll down and it should have the option for ringtone and also for notification sound and you can change it

There's no option for notification sound on my s9
