Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 3 - Battery Drain

I had this problem as well. I was getting 2 days of battery before having to charge, then without warning the battery started draining at an alarming rate. After trying a couple of things, this seemed to work. I turned off Google Services which seemed to work for a couple of days. Then I started having the same problem. So last week I took the battery out for a few minutes; reinstalled and updated Gooble Services and I seem to be getting better battery life than I was before. I have been on battery power for 2 days and 23 hours and still have 18% battery left. Don't know if this will work for everybody, but it seems to have solved the problem for me.

Just to be clear do you mean Google services framework or Google play services?

I was seeing some high usage too and found some other threads talking about "media server" usage. I saw mine was even a bigger drain than display. Media server doesn't seem to exactly be a separate app we can turn on or off. I can't remember where the other threads were...but I turned off a bunch of things I don't need (mostly Samsung Bloatware) and it stopped for a while but now I see it is back. Those threads talked a lot about syncing and corrupt files trying to resolve etc etc. It seems the phone is trying to sync with something it can't sync with so it is using lots of power in the attempts. If anyone figures out how to tell exactly what is triggering this "media server" event please post it here. Next I am going to see if Audible.com might be doing it.

Games often turn on media server. If the game is a running app try force closing it when you're done playing.

Ok...but I can't find anything called media server to freeze. It is listed in the things using battery but not anywhere I can find in manage apps including cached processes. And... I don't have an SD card aside from what's built in...ty.

I'm wrong. I was thinking of index service (caused by sd card) which can be frozen. I don't know the cure for media server. I did freeze google+ but I don't know if that helped. I used to have the media server issue but I don't any more. Media server is turned on by playing games with sound or videos or music. In my case the media server drain was caused by a game. Now I force close the game and media service uses like 0.1% of battery.

OK, I think the problem is the Google Play Services. Just uninstall the update from 4.3.X to 4.0.X and the battery drain should subside...:D

Hi all.

Until January 2014, my Note 3 could easily last two days with 30% battery left at the end of the second day.

Then ... only one short day. If I stop/restart my Note 3, it lasts again 2 days, but once. I have to stop/restart it every two days.
I decided to install Wakelock detector, and here is the results :

Any idea ?

FYI, I tried everything ... factory reset, disable location ... and so on.

The processes shown in the screenshots appear to be OS related, while battery dropped 5% in two hours. I presume the Note 3 was in use during this time. From this it's hard to say if the screenshots/WLD can alone determine what's wrong.

I'd try GSAM Battery Monitor or even the default Battery setting to see which app, or apps are draining battery.

Since there have been in the past numerous complaints about the battery life, I was just wondering have most been resolved now or do issues remain?

Can someone give me their average battery time frames with use of texts, emails, web surfing and phone calls throughout a normal day and evening??
Another words, does it last for most all those uses throughout one day and it's droid users that just want more extended life (2) days + or is that not the case?

I currently use an iPhone 4s and about to purchase the Galaxy Note 3 from all the good things I've heard, excluding battery life. I will say my iPhone barely makes it a whole day and that includes my mophie battery pack so I'm not very happy and ready for a change!!

I just want to be sure I'm making the right choice in this transition. The Verizon rep I spoke to said this Galaxy Note 3 was the best phone they had in the store. I'm wondering with all the past complaints with battery life and users going thru so many things to resolve should I wait for the Galaxy Note 4 or what are most users thoughts on the subject??

With phone off the charger at 6, I usually get home from work with 65-75% remaining. All depends upon how heavily I use the phone during the workday. My typical usage is light texting and web browsing, along with moderate music playing, and a few phone calls.

Since I actually have to work while at work, there's no gaming, Facebooking (don't use it anyway) or other stuff chewing through battery.

On weekends, I can go close to two full days without a charge. Again, it all depends on apps and app usage, signal quality, GPS usage, etc.

I appreciate your reply in response to my questions! Like you I don't Facebook either. Maybe there's something I'm missing that I'm unaware of but to have folks reading conversations that your having with others, people tracking your every move as does the Gov't, I can't see wasting my time on Facebook :)

As to the Galaxy Note 3, this is something that interest me. So you take it off charge at 6:00 am and it last most all day. My typical usage is heavy texting, some web browsing, no music and moderate phone calls. I presume that would be similar to your usage which then should last me all day without having to charge and/or without the use of adt'l external battery charging device e.g., a mophie device that I routinely must use with my iPhone 4s. Sounds like it's more suitable for me all around than the iPhone now that I've come to grips with the fact that Apple isn't as much the King of all phones as I thought...

I read in a lot the postings above where it seems most users have found various things that deplete battery life of which some should or needs to run while others not. I guess once I get the phone I will figure that out. Is there anything in particular you have found that's a default setting on the Note 3 that you found needed to be turned off or locked in sleep mode?

Lastly, does Android have a platform where you can share and sync with other devices like the iPhone to iPad, etc.??

You can share over the cloud using Dropbox, Google Drive, etc

Thanks for your reply...how's your battery life working out and what sort of activity with various things do you do with your phone? Light, Moderate or Heavy use, etc?
Do you have any input as to the benefits of having the Galaxy Note 3 versus iPhone?? Just want to confirm my choice of change is the right thing to do :)

I thought I would throw my 2 cents in here also :-) I must say I'm really happy with the battery life on the note 3. I came from a iPhone 4S and whenever I was in my car I had it charging, and I would give it a boost on charge if I was home for an hour or so in the middle of the day.

The note 3 battery definitely lasts me throughout the day. Today for example, it's been off charge for 18 hours, with a little over 7.5 hours of screen time (mostly reading news, Web browsing, emails (and I have 8 email accounts constantly going - work, univ, personal, volunteer stuff), texting, taking notes, gps, the odd brief phone call) - and I still have 38% of my battery left.

If I use my phone heavily - like this weekend when my bf and I were out of town and my gps was on most of the day, lots of picture taking, Web searching, and note taking, I still managed 16 hrs battery with 10 hrs of screen on time before my battery konked out (happily, right as we arrived home late at night!). My iPhone wouldn't even come close to that - whenever my picture taking and gps usage exceeded mild use my battery drained really quickly.

With what you listed as your daily usage I doubt you would have any problems getting through the day.

I do have a spare battery, but, I've had my note 3 since Sept and I have yet to use it ...which I think is pretty effing brilliant :-)

Hope this ramble helps a little!

Sarks.

Totally was the alarm! I have a Note 3 with ATT and 64gb SD card. The other fixes did not make sense for the problem but you hit it right on the head. Battery is finally holding a charge again after turning off the alarm. Cheers, Mate!

Idk if this has anything to do with anything, but my charger wouldn't connect very well. It would have to be positioned just right to pick up a charge.
Also, don't know if related, but do let tap with spen to bring up action memo wouldn't work on lock screen or home screen either, and yes I was holding down the button. I took phone off swipe and on pattern, and turned off lock screen and the double tap started working correctly.

Oddly enough, my charger magically no longer has the connection problem and is charging a lot faster....

This is really odd and has to be related to some kind of software bug that for some reason tied the two together.

Did you use the alarm that came on the phone or a third party alarm?
