Verizon - Skype Voice (VOIP)

Verizon just announced today that they will allow Skype VOIP services to happen.

I tried looking for the (crappy) skype app today in the market but it looks like its been pulled. I personally didn't like it because the battery drain and CPU usage was horrible on the Eris. I assume the other phones had better usage of this beta app. Hopefully Skype will optimize their app for our slower phone.

Tried to install it on my Verizon HTC Droid Eris today and got a message saying "switch to one of Verizon's best selling Blackberry and Android 3G smartphones. It is a Verizon Android 3G phone........wtf

i dont see it in the market. don't tell me it's a protected app and therefore eris root and leak owners can't see it?

i went to verizon's site and they say enter your number we'll send you a link and after i click the link and it refreshes 4 times skype says its not available for my phone? wtf?

hey if you have it for the eris make a copy and give it use cause my phone says it wont work on my phone but i have droid eris

Try turning on "Mobile View" in your browser settings.

you're trying with 1.5 or leaked? or root?

its probably blocked on Leaked 2.1 users because ours isn't "registered" with the rest of the world. probably wont be until OTA comes out, we just need to find the apk and install. more posts to come.

LOL it installs but then when you try to run it, it pop ups with a message that it can only be run on a Verizon Wireless phone

It works fine on my Eris. I didn't try to make a call, but it runs fine, logs into my Skype account, sees the status of all of my Skype contacts. It does make you turn off WiFi if you are connected by WiFi at the time of launch (though it's ok to have the radio on if you are disconnected).

I'd prefer that they allowed WiFi use as well, but, so it goes.

It works 100% on my Eris. on the Leak 2.1 I even chatted with my wife on it, you can NOT use wifi with this skype app... it will block you from using it, so you have to disable Wifi... sadly.

oh, an alternative option is Fring, you can use it to chat and voice call other skype users (on 3G and Wifi)

i tried fring. it never lets me go past registering
