Visionary Locks Up at Temp root

I searched for this question, and can't believe it hasn't been asked, but I can't find it. If I dupe it, I apologize.

I am attempting to work the visionary app to root my Evo Shift. I get through all of the steps, have Astro installed, put the adk on the card, install visionary, and run it. Every time I run it, it goes to a black screen and does not recover. I have tried the process repeatedly, upwards of a dozen times.

Am I doing something wrong? Is there a step I am missing?

First question, is your phone on 2.2 or 2.3?

Visionary doesn't work if your running Gingerbread. Also there is no perm root yet. You can temp root, follow this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1185243

If look through the last couple of pages of that thread there's also a single automated method. You'll need to set up sdk and adb first.
