i'm an old palm pre user. just switched to optimus less than a week ago. so far i love it.

one thing is baffling me. i'm experimenting with 3 voice apps: the default voice dialer, voice search (google), & vlingo. at one point, when i pressed the voice button on the side of the optimus, i was given a choice of which of the 3 to use. i no longer get the choice and therefore can no longer assign google or vlingo to the voice button.

the phone is not rooted and is running android 2.2.2. there must be a way to this without rooting.

what i've tried so far:
1. uninstall & reinstall vlingo
2. install a 4th voice app (& uninstall since it didn't change anything)
3. looked a Settings>Applications>Manage applications>(app)>Launch by default for all 3 apps. all were greyed out.

Setting>applications>manage applications>(the voice app)>clear data & cache

cashe was greyed out on all of them. data was greyed out for voice dialer but i did clear it for the other 2.

i cycled power but the button still launches voice dialer without an option of changing the default.

Not sure about the voice button, but you can assign the Search button long press to Vlingo (the one that looks like a magnifying glass). Hope that helps!

i guess that accomplishes the same thing. it's actually more convenient than what i was trying to do because it's easier to press than the voice button on the side.

thanks for the tip!

Theres an app called "button remapper" although you might need to be rooted
