Volume with headphones plugged in

It's so loud my ears want to bleed. I even have the tv remote down to 0. Is there any way to get the volume via the headphone jack to be at a reasonable level?

So you're plugging in the headphones directly into the Shield TV? Does the volume change at all if you use the remote without headphones plugged in?
