Vzw better not f up this time

These "stupid" moves that VZ has been making lately are their way of saying "Please, take your money and your PITA and go to our competitor".

That's exactly what I think is happening. They're slowly taking away options and/or making it more difficult for customers who want unlimited data or unlockable bootloaders on their phones. What's next? Two separate versions of the next Nexus, one with an unlockable bootloader and one without?

Sooner or later, they will find some loophole that will allow them to take away unlimited data from those of us with grandfathered plans. I am sure of it.

I have a year and a half on my contract, Once my contract is over, I'm gonna see how things stand with Verizon. Right now, though, it's looking like Sprint will not be a bad option when my contract is over.

Very good point you have made, I am in my opinion a long term user young enough to use a cell phone for the next 50 years and have been with Verizon for 10 now. I pay a family plan for 4 smartphones the money is there for them
I'm sure if I took my 4 smartphone plan elsewhere would they loose sleep no, I just think buying a $300 phone that I have had problems with since day one is bad business. Iv been back and forth I don't think I should have to settle for a phone I never wanted in the first place" the razr " not to mention the phone is a 3rd generation razr to have come out. And the technology will not go past ICS. the nexus will be reviving or able to work on future software thats not even available yet and run smoothly.

Have you been under a rock?! Haha just busting your chaps but it's relatively old news now that Verizon is completely done with unlimited data. I've been unlimited forever and am grandfathered as you are, but the deal was after June 28th (I believe) if you upgrade or otherwise change your plan...your furked. Some speculate you can buy unsubsidized and swap sims, but once your two year contract expires and you move month to month I'm thinking they'll moved you to a new tiered plan. Sucks but that's where it's going. Too many people using data 24/7 to keep unlimited plans. I'm sure all will follow suit.

It has been reported by several places (CNet, for one) that customers can keep unlimited data so long as they buy a phone without a subsidy. What I'm saying is that eventually, I'm sure that Verizon will find a a way to take the unlimited data away from even those of us with grandfathered plans and who will want to buy unsubsidized phones to keep those plans.

We can keep our unlimited data plans right now so long as we buy our phones without a subsidy -- but for how long will that be the case?

I think we're basically both on the same page.

Yeah I agree that is a way to keep unlimited data, but the bad part is VZW is the only carrier that runs cdma or wcdma/LTE so buying a phone at full price doesn't mean anything when you can't switch carriers. You still have to spend the money on data and you can't just leave and take that phone to another carrier there radio signals are only for VZW unlike GSM or HSPA

3. Calling every day and complaining about how much you don't like them will only make them mad. Take away the one thing they want most - your money.

I've worked customer service before. Calling them everyday is costing them money and time and tying up phone lines making more customers upset. If everyone was constantly calling verizon about slow updates, it would be done much sooner. Unfortunately, not too many people care.

The flip side of that of course is that it also ties up the caller's time/money and in all likelihood will make the caller more upset... which by this logic will prompt more calls and round it goes.

Not calling about updates read what's been wrote I call about the fact my nexus drops off the cdma like 15 x a day and I have to soft reset to get re authenticated the network or I can't do anything no voice or data

Anyone who's in business will tell you that there's a PITA vs Money decision to be made. When you become more of a PITA than you're money's worth, they want you to leave and take your PITA to their competitor. This is, IMO, where VZ is at with hackers, flashers, modders and heavy data users. They don't want your money.

I'm in business and I've broken off relations with more than one client because the money wasn't worth the PITA they created for me. Most companies won't tell you outright, they'll just find ways to make you want to leave. These "stupid" moves that VZ has been making lately are their way of saying "Please, take your money and your PITA and go to our competitor".

I think you're right about abusively heavy data users. They wouldn't care that much if those users left for another carrier. But those users are a very tiny minority. The majority of unlimited data users are going to get encouraged or pushed to the metered plans one way or another.

As for the hackers, flashers, and modders, they just haven't figured out how to handle such users on the support end. As I've said before, this is pretty easy. They could opt to not support such users if they are using unsupported software, they could charge for support, or require users to return to the supported stock image. When manufacturers/carriers encrypt bootloaders, and don't release stock fastboot images, they're actually increasing their support costs. Users don't have a way to return to the stock operating system themselves, so when something fails they go running to the carrier for a replacement. When you buy a laptop, the manufacturer furnishes a recovery method. A phone is no different. It's just an embedded computer with a radio in it.

You're right. They are going to do everything they can to make it difficult for unlimited data users to keep their plan. I had an unlimited plan on AT&T before switching to Verizon with a metered plan last fall. I saw the writing on the wall so I didn't hesitate to switch to get LTE service. Shortly after that, AT&T announced throttling of unlimited data users(as if AT&T's crappy network didn't throttle users enough) beyond 3gb of usage. Its quite possible Verizon might implement something similar down the road.

I just want new radios from Verizon just took a trip up to northern California from San Diego in the car I had no reception anywhere.

Then tell them yours is a lemon and exchange it for another one.

Five replacements? WOW.

Mine is "good enough". It could have a better radio but I'm ok with it.

As far as updates I'd like them to come faster but as someone else said - there is a fair amount of indifference once you get the phone working the way you want.

mine is played with really bad connection problems and robs connectivity almost 15x everyday where data and voice wont work
