VZW GNexus will not turn on, power volt displays when plugged in

I have a VZW Samsung Galaxy Nexus and I just started getting into this. I had been having a great time (unlocked bootloader, rooted, etc.), but was having issues with CWM and trying to switch to TWRP. My phone wasn't being recognized as rooted by both GooManager and Titanium Backup. I had installed the correct drivers and adb on my PC, and my main reason was to flash the stock JB, and then having successfully done so. There are so many different ways to go about doing this, so I think I did an amalgamation of steps from different processes. Despite this, everything was running fine on the phone. I then found Wug's toolkit yesterday (was going to back up and attempt to root again, thinking I had done something wrong), and decided I was going to back-up my phone (all apps). I did this using the prompts, and it took quite a while. The phone was showing all of the files/apps (com.facebook.orca, etc.), then was not showing anything but the grey screen from the backup. The result was a 6.5 GB .ab file. At this point, my PC said that a backup was created successfully. I unplugged the phone from my PC and the power button was not working to lock the phone. I dumbly pulled the battery, and now I cannot get the phone to power up. I plug the phone in and the display indicates that there is a full charge. I did all sorts of plugging in and battery pulling from other forums, but this has not brought success. I attempted to turn on the phone using every method possible. I brought the phone to the VZW store and they determined that the power button was not working (obviously). The problem is, they are sending a new one, and want me to mail back the old one. My worry is that if they refurbish this phone, they will find that I unlocked the bootloader, voiding the warranty. Obviously, I'd like to get this phone working again and not deal with a new one. The least I need to do is get this phone unrooted and the bootloader locked so that there is no chance of me getting charged back for the phone should I send it back. Apologies for the length of this message, I am just a worried newbie. Note: there is no water damage and I did not drop or do anythign physical to this phone. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Can you get into the bootloader or does your phone do nothing? I would wait a bit and retry. Its pretty hard to brick these phones.

Honestly, if they can't turn it on I wouldn't worry that much. That's hardware failure.

Unlocking I believe doesn't void. I think I've read about people who exchanged with an unlocked bootloader

Unlocking may void it, depending on how that Verizon rep is feeling that day :).

No, I can't get to bootloader. Went to two VZW stores, and I saw them trying to do that as well. The phone will literally not power on. It's like my power button breaking coincided with this backup, and I am concerned that an attempt to refurb this phone by VZW will reveal the unlocked bootloader. The guy in the first store wanted me to pay $80 for a guy to come in and replace the power button. This leads me to believe that given my phone is in relatively good condition, this may occur.

I'm thinking the same thing. It could be pure coincidence that this happened. I've read about bootlooping occurring and I would be totally fine with that (there are fixes everywhere on here for that), but I can't even get it on. I don't want verizon to get the wrong idea and try to blame this hardware failure on me for unlocking the bootloader and modifying the device, albeit to stock JB which it should rightfully be anyway.

I didn't tell the rep anything about unlocking the bootloader or rooting. I simply stated the phone would not power on. I am not getting blamed for this as I don't trust them anyway. The first guy even tried to offer an upgrade to a GS3 for a nominal $199.99 (how generous!), which would incidentally remove my unlimited data plan and force me to a share everything plan.

Thank you all for your responses btw. Very helpful.
