Was your Nexus 7 defective or in Perfect condition?

16gb from Staples had to return due to screen flickering issue and some dead pixels. Will most likely give it another shot in a few months once they've worked out the kinks. :p

This thread has made me settle upon getting the 8GB model from Staples since i'll be rooting w/stickmount anyways.

I posted a few days ago that mine (16GB purchased from Staples) had the screen separation issue. It seems to have settled to being completely unnoticeable after a few days of use. I'm not calling it completely good just yet, but just normal use seems to have caused the glue to set properly.

There's still a teensy bit of separation (we're talking a tenth of a millimeter at most, thinner than my thumbnail), and occasionally I can press down on the screen (much harder than I would to use it, and when pushing the back of the case upward at the same time) and I'll get the "glue unstuck click" feel, but I cannot make any LCD distortion happen at any pressure I am comfortable applying, and I honestly have to get out a magnifying glass to see the difference between the right and left sides of the screen now. I suspect the glue just needed to settle in (and streaming a few hours of video seems to have done the trick, though I didn't feel the unit get any warmer).

So please take one 16GB unit out of the "defective" column and put it in the "perfect" column, because at this point the unit is well within any reasonable expectation of manufacturing tolerance from any company - I've had much more expensive items built to far worse tolerances than this thing.

Does the picture from the arstechnica review show the same screen lift problem that so many other people are seeing? I think it shows here:

Divine intervention: Google’s Nexus 7 is a fantastic $200 tablet | Ars Technica

I'm somewhat surprised reviews did not mention it. I would not be surprised if a very large number of people who got a "perfect" unit actually have at least some screen lift on that side.

It was perfect, but for the screen lift issue. I tried tightening the screws but that only fixed the problem for about 5 minutes. I ended up returning it today. I couldn't live with having something with such shoddy build quality. I hope that there is a new batch of Asus N7s with the screen issues resolved. Until then, I'll seriously consider the iPad mini.

Slight glass separation on the left. Really just annoying, but doesn't do anything wrong functionality wise. Although any decent pressure and the LCD gets messed up. I had planned on waiting a few weeks to maybe replace it but I called earlier today and it's a super easy process. The best part is that I won't be without a tablet because they send me the replacement before I send in this one (which is why I planned on waiting at first, I love this thing so much I didn't want to let it go after I just got it).

With the way they handled the launch/ pre-order I was really hesitant about replacing it over a minor issue. I'm so glad that they're so easy about it and the guy on the phone was very helpful.

I made a video today of my touchscreen issue. It seems to not happen if I have something plugged into the headphone jack. Very strange. I've called Google and have a new unit ordered. Hopefully it won't have the same issue. [YT]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dG3-vjFYh0Q[/YT]

I clicked on the customer support link in Google Play store and listed the issues and requested a replacement on Saturday night. I was emailed a UPS label for the return and was notified the replacement will be delivered tomorrow (Tuesday). Amazingly quick.
Could I have lived with some of the issues, maybe. But why should I? I paid for a product that should have gone through a quality control process.

Mine has the defective right side touchscreen issue. Will return to Staples and have new unit on order.

Both my wife's and I's tablets had to be replaced due to screen separation issues (both 16gb).

I just picked up a second Nexus 7 in an attempt to give it another shot (I returned my 1st one 3 days after it was released due to constant freezing/rebooting)...

So far, it's great! No problems at all....only time will tell.

The screen is tight, no dead pixels, no ghosting. Got it on today's shipment to my local OfficeDepot.

My screen is still holding. To recap, I clamped the screen and left it in my car in 100 degree weather for 3 hours. It's been 4 days now.

8 Gb model bought at Staples on 7-27-2012. This was a brand new shipment that they got off the truck that day, and the unit was defective with the screen lifting up on the left side.

I returned it to wait for them to improve the manufacturing.

Bought one from Radio Shack since Staples did not have any to exchange for my one with the right-side touchscreen issue.

This one has the same issue, PLUS the separating screen.................

I love this thing so I guess I'll exchange it in a few weeks when some new batches come through.
