Way too many issues, who's jumping ship once S22 Ultra launches?

Would have been surprising, all we really need is for them to make different choices in photo mode. The hardware has never been the problem.

It is difficult to sway opinion. The only thing that is definitive and not subjective are specs, color of handset and what comes in the package. So much of what is discussed here is subjective opinion, only that.

IMO the Pixel cameras are difficult to beat(I don't do iPhone) as far as Android based phones are concerned. Although, I have thought about iPhone only because there are no options, Android has so many brands, makes models etc that it is difficult when you have a personality type such as mine. My wallet would ultimately thank me if I only had to buy one a year.

I have had good results with Samsung cameras but I find my self deleting more photos than I do with P6P. I didn't sell my S21U, I am using it for trade-in on the S22U, but when I put my sim in it a couple of weeks back and used it for an entire day the entire experience felt clunky. Without searching for issues my days experience is more cumbersome with the Samsung. I don't use the S-Pen all of the time, but it is nice whenI feel I need it.

Everyone is looking for something a little different in their experience, which is what makes opinions so diverse about phones. While camera quality is not important to some it is the most imporant thing to others. As I said in a previous post I like both Google and Samsung. As time passes I honestly see less of a need for super spec'd up device that is overkill and just raises the price. Samsung has more of a kitchen sink approach, just throw everything in including the kitchen sink. If it wasn't for the immense discount of handing in a 6 month to 1 year device in trade, the $1200 price tag tough to handle compared to $900 for the P6P.

Really! I swapped my SIM from my Pixel 6 back to my S21 Ultra and I'm finding my Ultra to be buttery smooth. Well in all fairness I did do a factory reset recently now that I'm thinking about it. IDK, seems great to me.

I dont know about the G4 but the last time my wife got a subsidized phone phone on Verizon at a reduced price they raised the line access fees on her line until the phone was paid off which was 2 years. I don't think they do that anymore but the bottom line is that it's not always free.

I think my G4 was the last of the "Free Phone for a new two year contract" deals the carriers used to run.

I would push back on this a bit. I popped my SIM back in my S21 Ultra today. I agree, in most circumstances the S21 Ultra holds it's own against my Pixel 6, but when it comes to my constantly moving 2-year-old, the Pixel takes the cake. Everyday. Samsung still has some work to do. Their shutter speed has been a problem for too long. Kids/pets/any moving object are an issue with their camera and they don't seem to regard it as such.

I made a comment about this on an article on here about the S22 and was told I was drinking the kool-aid...

This right here!!!!!

Couldn't agree with you more. The same reason I change sims from my Galaxy to my Pixel. Especially when my kids are playing sports.

Would be interesting to see more YouTubers compare phones for this scenario...

Nah, they are more interested with how sharp that plantpot is when shot from 5 miles away.

Or how amazing the zoom is. It's great, I get it but I've found it useful once that I can remember. Once.

Edit: maybe I'll read your post in full next time.

Just sent my Pixel 6 Pro back to VZW and will grab a S22 Ultra when it drops.

My P6Pro dropped more conversations in one hour than my S20 did in two years. Although, that was merely the final nail in the coffin. The "Always on Display" not being "always on" was frustrating, odd app crashes, needing frequent reboots to solve random issues. The camera is just amazing. But aside from the camera, Google hasn't yet figured out how to deliver the level of polish and refinement that their competitors offer. I really hope they do soon, as I would love a great Pixel device.

IIRC, the S22 Ultra camera has a kids and pets camera setting.

Be a nice feature for people with kids and pets (that aren't old and lazy).

My dogs are 9 and 10 and large Malamutes, they do not move fast except to the food bowls. Kids...they left along time ago; never to return. So for me, landscapes, maybe wolfs and other wildlife.

For what it's worth, I asked MKBHD if he would check for pet fur being smudged and indoor shots of moving objects like children when he does his full review. What I'm afraid of is that yes, they have new algorithms for night photos, zoom and portraits, but no change to other modes. We might be able to achieve something with pro mode, but that negates being able to take a spur of the moment shot with no time to adjust settings. I guess we'll all find out when we get our phones after the 25th. Samsung wants to have the best camera on a smart phone, but I'm not sure they're there yet. I hope I'm wrong. The samples I've seen so far are subjects in good light, night scenes and portraits. Maybe some still shots could be extracted from short video clips. Portrait mode might also be good for pets that are sitting still. A series of burst shots might be another option.

Thought I remember hearing in one of the many videos that there's an update expected that will improve camera ... It may only be for night mode though. Wish I could remember which video, but I've watched so many LOL
