Re: We need to let OEMs and Corning know how bad Gorilla Glass 2

I have the Asus Infinity 700, come with GG2. My brother didn't believe how much faith I had in it after he asked if I was going to put a screen protector on it...so I skipped my keys across it, not a single scratch. Maybe there was a bad batch, you know they just hired a new guy who started on a Friday :D

I do believe that even Corning states in a marketing video they made that the GG2 is no different than GG1, only thinner. The GG2 is .08 mm, as compared to 1.0 mm or thicker on the original GG.

Watching another video just today from a NBC article, if i remember correctly, stated that the glass is made a certain way to give it a tempered quality. They do this by immersing the glass in a chemical solution and boil it at high temps, then remove the glass from the bath and cool it with a cold rinse, "hardening" the outer layers, but leaving the inner layer to be slightly pliable, allowing for some flex in the core of the glass. Now say for instance, the original GG at 1.0 mm thick has .04 mm top and bottom hard surfaces, with .02 mm flex glass in the middle. .04 + .04 + .02 = 1.0. Now they make the GG2 and are constrained to .08 mm glass. We now have something like .03 mm top and bottom and .02 mm in the middle. There is still flex, just not as thick on the outer flats.

These could very well be some sort of stress cracks, instead of scratches (one earlier poster called them possible fissures).

All I can say is that i pocket my sgs3 with another phone on a daily basis and no screen protector. Am i tempting fate? Who knows. All i know is that i have no scratches yet, and if i do, then i will stop worrying about potential resale value. I have had my white sgs3 since launch day with only a Belkin grip vue case, i think that is what it is called, covering it's bottom side.

Re: We need to let OEMs and Corning know how bad Gorilla Glass 2

I have no issues with scratches on my S3 and I love the feel of naked GG2. It resists fingerprints far better and has a much smoother feel than my old droid X with original GG. I keep it face up on my desk or in a pocket (with no change, keys, or anything else for that matter). I've also taken it to the beach everyday for a week and had no problems, but eventually started putting it in a ziplock bag just to keep it cleaner.

Maybe you guys have a a lot of dirt in your pockets, stop rolling around in the sand...

Re: We need to let OEMs and Corning know how bad Gorilla Glass 2

I am sure that human error plays into a majority of the scratches and cracks. Could some of it be due to the stress of being left in a back pocket and sitting on the phone causing more stress than the glass was designed to handle? Could it be that some pockets could be crammed full of so many abrasive elements that would press harder than in pockets with only the phone? If GG2 were so defective, out of, at least the 10 million GS3, and other devices that have it, alllowing for millions more devices, Corning surely would recalled it or made Samsung aware of it which would hasten the issue being resolved. Instead, the total number of posts is small in comparison. I am sure that there are legitimate cases of product failure but when you net out those due to poor judgement, negligence and accidents, the number is truly small in reality.

i certainly dont baby my device but i WOULDNT DREAM of puttin it in a back pocket lol. augh i can imagine the crunching sound as it snaps :( ;)

To be honest I used Cellet screen protector. And it work well for my other phone until now since I accident bent the film while gliding my hand on the screen. So I already ordered a another one, it have great review on Amazon. I won't get it until Sept 11 because it sold out a lot. So I went to best buy and brought a ZAGG. I hate it. I followed everything. Washed my hand twice. Clean up my screen before applying. I wet the film and everything. I apply it and use that squeeze. It did a awful job. It left a mark of the rubber on my screen. I clean it off. It didn't seem to do a great job. I can tell the imperfection on it. I guess I have to wait for few days and hope it improve it
