okay so I have download the android SDK but i was wondering how I would enable ADB as i am still getting the same message. Thanks for helping I'm a android noobie.

Put the phone in USB Debugging Mode. Its in the Application Settings under Developer settings.

*note* i don't have the android sdk installed (or even d/led) and it worked for me...

Tried this out and it doesn't seem to be working...

Clicking on Install.bat it seems there was a problem creating a directory, here is the install process:

Wait for the count down to finish ...

Waiting for 14 seconds, press a key to continue ...

Pushing required files ...

Running install script ...

Remove old installer ...

Extracting the installer ...
(this will take a bit, be patient)

mkdir failed for /mnt/sdcard/WebtopModBackup, Read-only file system
Removing dalvik-cache

Copying modified files to /system/app ...
(your phone may become unresponsive, be patient)

Rebooting ...
(notification light will start blink red, wait for it to reboot)

Once the boot is complete, when you plug in an HDMI device, you will see WebTop as an option!

Press any key to continue...

Edit: never mind... guess i didn't install something i should have.

I get the same error message:

mkdir failed for /mnt/sdcard/webtopmodbackup

can somebody please tell me what I'm doing wrong?

I am having two issues- it appears... I am a total noob though...

1. After wait for countdown to finish... Mine says "Timeout" is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

2. I get the same message above about the failed mkdir file...

I am starting to think I need to root this thing, but Gingerbread is supposedly close, so I don't want to turn around and have to return to stock, etc. Any recommendations on other threads or easy ways to root for a first timer?

go over to XDA. They have detailed rooting process.

Ok, so I'm quickly showing how much of a n00b I am here, but i need to ask this question.
I have a rooted atrix running 4.5.91 2.3.4 and the only thing i have done was the hdmi mod for webtop, because it is the reason i bought my phone. (my brother demoed it for me and it was insta-love!) Anyways, It appears to be working fine, on my parents tv, and bro's tv, but I put it on my tv and nothing. I'm wondering if it's a resolution issue? I'd hate to go buy a new tv. I have a ns-lcd42hd insignia (free with minor capacitor repair). Any ideas? I wouldn't mind going to 480i/p resolution to get it working but while it was on my brothers tv, it was 720 or nothing. I've been fighting this, and spending all my time researching to no avail. Please help.

Anyone tried this simpler method posted xda:

Simpler install method:
DG Just gave us the Go-ahead so, A simpler way to install, uses the same method as DG's ADEO installer.

1. Download The Mod Files here: HERE
2. Hook up your phone via usb with ADB enabled
3. run INSTALL.bat from the unzipped files
4. sit back, relax, wait until it reboots (can take upto 5min, be patient!!)
5. Read the disclaimer below
6. Enjoy!

According to the forum, it doesn't require root or deodexed ?

When Motorola releases an update, how easy is to go back to original so that we can update the phone ?

Anyone tried plugging in a usb keyboard into micro-usb via adapter? I know bluetooth keyboard and mouse work fine ..

Hey, I'm a newbe here as I spend most of my time on the "Team USCellular" forum. I'm attempting to to enable the webtop app on a rooted Moto Electrify (A rebranded moto Photon 4g from sprint). I was hoping that this would work to get the hack going, however I can not seem to get to the link. Would anybody mind re posting the link?
