Weekly Photo Contest: Sports

I took this during a trip to Australia using a Nexus 4 running 4.3. I used photosphere and the entire picture was MASSIVE and covered the whole stadium. So I cropped the picture to to leave the good part (sorry the cropping the reduced the resolution so much). I also made the picture black and white using the default photo editing software of Android OS.

This was taken during one of the most incredible moments of my life. I've been a huge NY Islanders fan since I was a little kid. Everyone that knows the NHL knows that the Isles have been... less than hot for the past few years. Well, last season, the Isles made the playoffs for the first time since 2007. They were up against the Pittsburgh Penguins in a best of seven series. Nobody expected the Islanders to be a contender, yet they defied all expectation and gave the Pens (arguably the most stacked, definitely one of the best teams in the NHL) a run for their money. They took the series to game 6, where they lost a very excellent game in Overtime (they were 5 mins from winning that game). I was there that day, and the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum was ELECTRIC. The hungry crowd was so loud, my ears hurt. The thumping of feet shook the whole arena. We Islanders fans were thirsty after such a long drought, and the experience was utterly memorable.

This photo was taken during that Game 6, with my Droid DNA. I edited the pic in Picsay Pro, adding the Color Pop effect, adjusting Saturation/Contrast etc. This was during the National Anthem.

This was taken Sept 15th at Fenway in Boston. Being a Yankees fan living in Boston it's ways great to get out to a game when the yanks are in town. This was a special game because it was the last time the best closer in baseball history, Mariano Rivera would be at Fenway. The red sox did a great pregame ceremony honoring MO for his career accomplishments, giving him several gifts to commemorate the the occasion.

I forgot the backstory. I'm a golf course superintendent and try to at least once a week play a round in the morning. This was my approach shot from about 120 yards out on a par 4, short of the eagle but got the bird!

Dusk at the US Open in Flushing, NY a few weeks ago. This is Stan Wawrinka in the second round vs Ivo Karlovic. Stan went on to win, and went on to the semis where he lost to Djokovic.

Taken with my HTC One, using the sequence/burst shot feature. No other edits. I actually posted three shots side-by-side from this sequence on Instagram later that night, and Stan actually liked it!
