Well guys after all the love and frustration

This issue never happened on the incredible. I have had privacy plus for over two years!

Help me out. What is Privacy Plus and how do you think it relates to this issue?

Since you didn't type in any number to dial, that is why it is not dialing when you press CALL.

-Frank

Again am not explaining right. The number is correct. The green call button had no action as if frozen.
All is proper for me to make a call. I tap on call and no action.
The number is dialed. Actually from the contacts. What isn't being understood?

I have decided to refuse the refurbished device. I have read that one person has had 4 and they have been crap. Since the reset, Sunday was decent with the phone. I haven't had it a complete month and it makes me nervous. I have had to replace my other devices. I am going to wait till after Gingerbread update and see what happens. I have also removed some applications. I don't know if they have caused a problem but I need to make sure before I do this. I have a new phone and damn, I don't want to deal with another. I emailed Verizon and told them if it was going to be a NEW replacement, I would be more inclined. I told them I will wait and see what happens with the update. My brother talked me out of it saying to give the update a chance. I can be swayed these days LOL. I really like this phone. A lot and if the tweaks will be fixed with the update then I will be happy. I am a Gemini LOL usually am not fickle but I really hate the idea of a refurb on a phone I just got. That doesn't fly with me.:-\

My daughter went through 3 replacement TBolts before she got one that worked (for her). I personally think she was being to critical (the 4G wasn't connecting all the time, which I explained why that might happen). The only legitimate refurb that didn't work was she got one that the camera didn't work right. But, she has had this last one for about 3 months and works perfect. I am on my 1 refurb phone (first one was my fault.....cracked the screen...phone worked, but looked cosmetically ugly), and so far, it works perfect...actually better then my original one. But, then again, I haven't ROOTED it or tweaked it at all. I am waiting to see what GB will bring us!.

Did you successfully activate the phone after receipt?

My very first smartphone was a Blackberry Curve 83xx. I was all set to buy the Verizon model, then found out that Verizon had intentionally blocked the GPS from being used for any application but "TeleNav". I had to discover this little gem on online forums, because the ad print clearly stated that the phone had a GPS, and when I called and asked Verizon flat-out if the GPS worked with Google Maps and other third-party applications I was told "yes". I very nearly ordered the phone, re-read the problem descriptions, and called Verizon back and had (paraphrased) the following exchange:

Me: "So, I called the other day and asked this question, and wanted to confirm it. I'm considering purchasing a Blackberry 8300 from you folks, and it has a GPS, and I was told that the GPS works with Google Maps and other third-party applications."
VZ Rep: "Correct, the GPS works with all applications."
Me: "So I could install, say, Google Maps, and the GPS would work with it?"
VZ Rep: "Absolutely. It will work just fine."
Me: "So within a few minutes, the little dot will tell me where I am, and I can use it to track my location on the little dot as I drive around?"
VZ Rep: "No. Sorry. You'll need TeleNav for that, it's only $9.95 a month and allows you much better mapping than Google Maps."
Me: "Why won't Google Maps have my location if the GPS works with it?"
VZ Rep: "Because the GPS only provides LOCATION information to TeleNav, which is a paid service. You don't get to use the location services for free, sir."
Me: "But you said the GPS works with Google Maps."
VZ Rep: "Of course I did, because it does. It just doesn't provide location information."
Me: "If I purchased TeleNav, would the GPS provide location information to Google Maps?"
VZ Rep: "Why would you want Google Maps if you had TeleNav?"
Me: "Let me ask this another way. There's a third party application called BlackStar that does Geocaching. If I purchased TeleNav, would the GPS provide location information to that application?"
VZ Rep: "No, the GPS is designed to provide location to TeleNav only. It works with everything, but we can't afford to give the location away to just any old application, that costs us a lot of money you know."
Me: "(long pause), OK, Thanks for your time. Have a nice day."

So releasing phones without the features promised and advertised is not a new phenomenon.

I hesitated for a LONG time before getting my Thunderbolt and going back to Verizon.

I later found out that Verizon eventually unlocked the GPS for use with Google Maps, but they never did turn it on for other third-party apps, even though "GPS LOCATION SERVICES" remained in the adverts until the phone was discontinued.

I had a similar conversation with Verizon, I won't go into the whole lengthy ordeal here, but it started out something like this:

ME: Who's on first?

VZ Rep: Yes.

The one thing that always works for me is to joke with them. Ask them how the weather is where they are from and then brag about the nice weather where you are (I am in the San Francisco bay area). Then I will start talking tech like "Hey, just curious, do you know when the latest OTA is coming?". I then talk about cool programs/apps that I found. Keep in mind, this is all done while I am waiting for my initial question to be answered. I would say about 70% of the time, I get what I was coming for....if not, I had a great conversation and leave it at that.

Moral of the story.....be nice, respectful, joke and see what happens!

Yes. I have wireless background too bur never had this issue before. I am just going to see what happens. Yesterday no issues. The thought of replacing it really irks me. I know refurbish look decent and all. But I don't want more problems . Could happen. With it having been flawless yesterday makes me think to put the switch on hold.
You all are awesome!

I am not using 4g. Have it set to 3g because my home area isn't available. Once I start working again I will try out the 4g because it is in Phoenix and Scottsdale. I don't want it toggling. That's a battery hog.

Oh. I thought this was a 100 percent call-out failure, not intermittent. Sorry. Intermittent is much different :) I thought, if it activated, it must be "calling-out". Anyway, good luck with the Refurb. I would accept it as long as it looks/behaves right. No biggie.

Edit: Just something to think about... this has happened a number of times to me, over the years (now that I realize you are talking about intermentent behavior). It is typically signal related. When you attempt to place a call it looks for a decent signal or it won't place the call. It is important to note that the "bars" are not always updated fast enough to tell any difference in temporary signal glitches. And, it's not just about signal strength, it's about signal quality -- which severely deteriorates with a maxed out cell tower. These "glitches" can be phone related or tower related or congestion related. I've actually waited long enough to get a connection virtually 1/2-1 min after hitting send. Now for the kicker, this has happened occasionally on every single phone I have owned, flip and smartphone combined. Including even one Sprint LG flip phone. I think it's a CDMA-centric behavior. In my opinion, if this happens only occasionally, I personally would not exchange a phone for this reason. Mainly because I would feel it would be unlikely that the behavior would be any different after exchange.

Jude,
I have the exact problem sometimes.
I dial a number and hit the call button and nothing happens. I have to either do a battery pull or a reboot to fix.
I have done 3 factory resets and removed all apps. Still happens a few days after a factory reset. I agree that you should not take one of the factory replacements because that has just opened up Pandora's box for me.
1st phone the ear speaker busted.
Got the 2nd phone and the volume rocker down button was broken
Got the 3rd phone and it had major light leakage under the home and menu button.
Now 4th phone cant call out sometimes. I have noticed sometimes that when I try and type on websites that it gets uncontrollably laggy.
Verizon offered me a Bionic some I am going to try it. The only other phone I have had with this kind of issues is the Storm 1. My OG Droid was flawless. I love the phone if I could get it to work. I can deal with the in and out data, but the inability to dial out drove me crazy.

Thanks for agreeing. Two days now without a problem. Knock on wood. I am glad I said no. Wish you had better luck too

Have you ever had issues like the ones you're saying when you go to people and hit a name and select their number and dial that way. It might be a work around. Like type in the number list it under aaa the select it from your people and go from there. I only ask this because I've had my Bolt since Apr. and never had this issue. But I rarely ever use the keypad to dial. Most of the people I call are already in my people folder. This might even tell if it's a problem such as a full cell tower. If you type in the number and hit call and it doesn't work try to save the number under aaa then try again to see if it goes through via the people folder. I hope what you have already done works or this might help if that doesn't.

Congrats Sister,

What line of work? Does this offer make you say "Would you like fries with that?"......LOLOLOL. Kidding of course

Good luck with the new job. No playing with your tbolt during orientation!

ps.....if you switch to bionic it doesn't make you a traitor...these are only phones! (Of course if you go over to the dark side for an iphone that's a different story entirely! lol)
