We've got the HTC 10 and we're answering your questions right here!

Re: We've got the HTC 10 — and we're answering your questions right here!

Thanks for finally addressing the audio quality Alex. I'm somewhat disappointed that the sound is no better than the M8. I was hoping for more bass response due to those grooves in the back plate shown in the tear down photos.

Re: We've got the HTC 10 — and we're answering your questions right here!

Just listened to the HTC 10 android central podcast, got to say Alex was pretty much down on the HTC 10 and also constantly interrupting Phil :)

Re: We've got the HTC 10 — and we're answering your questions right here!

Does the slow mo video support 240 fps or just 120 fps. Seeing how powerful the SOC is i haven't seen that addressed just seen the specs listed as 120. Also can it record at 720 60 fps 1080 fps as well?

Re: We've got the HTC 10 — and we're answering your questions right here!

Does front camera have fixed focus or auto focus ?
AF
I hope I'm not too late to get some questions answered. Thanks for making this Q and A by the way, never experienced this from a site before. It's pretty awesome. Anyway on to the questions...

  1. I'm worried about the lens flair (flare) in some shots and the over exposure. Are you experiencing that a lot? Chances of this being fixed in a software patch?
  2. How's the Bluetooth? I've noticed several Android phones having issue with Bluetooth at first for fitness trackers and Android Wear.
  3. How's the WiFi, are you experiencing the same speeds compared to other phones?
  4. How's NFC, do you have to be overly close to the terminal to get Android Pay to respond?
  5. Are you experiencing any dropped frames for web browsing or scrolling? aka stutter.
  6. How's the camera compared to the iPhone 6S
  7. The S7 had touchscreen issues (overly sensitive) which was just patched for T-Mobile, are you able to activate the screen without touching it? Any accidental presses?
  8. RAM Management is likely good, how many apps can be active before closing one?
  9. Anyway I can have you compare the camera with a 2015 model phone besides the iPhone 6S? HTC M9, LG G4, S6 for example?
  10. Can you use USB C headphones instead of analog?

Thanks in advance
1. Over-exposure: Maybe. I'm not really seeing that though. Lens flare is a physical characteristic of the lens. And in the shot you're talking about, the sun was at an awkward angle. I wouldn't worry about that too much.
2. No issues here with my Moto 360.
3. I've heard of other reviewers having some Wifi gremlins, but it's been fine for me.
4. No Android Pay here, so can't answer that really.
5. Nope.
6. Haven't directly compared, but from what I've seen HTC wins in low light, Apple wins in simplicity and ease of use.
7. Nope.
8. Hard to say, but I haven't noticed any obnoxious app-closing, even with Boost+ running.
9. We'll have camera comparisons later. But I can comfortably say it's way better than M9. G4 and GS6 are probably better in daylight, worse in low light.
10. Yes. HTC will have some of its own soon.
There seems to be mixed messages about the headphones. Some now saying the US won't get the headphones.
It was my understanding, buying the unlocked phone through htc.com, you get them.

Once the carriers sell the device, and you're buying it from them they will probably just have a regular set.

Does that sound right?
My understanding was not bundled in the US at all. At least not in the box.

How's the screen under sunlight? Like the M8/M9 or better?
Better

How substantial do you feel the upgrade is for someone coming from a launch day M7? To my eyes the Snapdragon 600 + 2GB Ram has yet to cause any problems in day-to-day use. (Email, phone calls, texting and general web browsing) I don't game so any sluggish use on that end is lost on me.
M7 is a hell of a phone, but it's getting towards the end of its lifespan. If you like your M7 and are looking for something like it but more up to date, the 10 is a great option.

Hows the front facing camera? I'm not sure if you use apps like Snapchat but yeah??????
It's decent. Need to test some more.
Front Facing Flash.

Does the entire screen flash white like the Samsung S7 or just a thick white border like the LG V10/G5?
Entire screen. Also overdrives the brightness like the iPhone does when flashing, according to HTC.
I've read through the initial review and this thread. I get the sense it's a capable, well built, beautiful phone with lightning quick fingerprint reader, pared down sense, decent battery and great camera. All flagships in the last year check all these boxes.

For me, it's down to the Sammy S7e and this. If you'd have to pick one to buy today, which one do you go with and why?
For the money, my gut feeling is go GS7 edge. More reliable camera and way better battery life.

How does the audio sound in theatre mode. Read somewhere this gives a much better stereo effect from the speakers
Only difference I've noticed is high-end seems quieter in theatre mode.

HTC talked about improving the screen response. Do you notice this at all? Also how is signal quality?

Posted via the Android Central App
Signal quality is just fine. For all the talk about improving screen response, I haven't noticed any real difference compared to, say, the 6P. Not to say it's bad. I just wouldn't have noticed anything had HTC not pointed it out.

Re: We've got the HTC 10 — and we're answering your questions right here!

Hello,
I'm curious to know if the 10 continues to charge while you're using it. So, say you're stuck at the airport with a low battery and you've got it plugged in. You receive an important call or need to check email, whatever...does it continue to charge while the phone is in use?

Thanks.

Re: We've got the HTC 10 — and we're answering your questions right here!

I'm not gonna pre-order, I'm not gonna pre-order....who am I kidding? This combines everything I love about Nexus with an SD slot and adoptable storage. I'm probably going to preorder it. I might not sell my Nexus 6 right away though. :)

Re: We've got the HTC 10 — and we're answering your questions right here!

Thanks, Alex.

Re: We've got the HTC 10 — and we're answering your questions right here!

Using LightFlow or similar applications, is it possible to change the LED to a differently color other than green/red/amber. I've seen a similar question but that might be the pre-defined colors for when charging, etc. but -hopefully- you can access the full spectrum of RGB on the LED notification light using LightFlow?

Re: We've got the HTC 10 — and we're answering your questions right here!

Phil mentioned in HTC 10 podcast that camera has no option of touch screen focus/exposure, just whole screen auto metering/exposure. Is that true? If the camera has no way of adjusting exposure for certain area by touching, it's big bummer for camera.

I 'sensed' that too... Sounded like Alex wasn't happy with some of the overpromising htc did in marketing

Re: We've got the HTC 10 — and we're answering your questions right here!

Does the htc 10 have any "always listening"/wake on voice features? Similar to Moto's ok google detection and Samsung's voice wake-up.
-Thanks

Nope according to reviews and reports it doesn't have that feature.

Re: We've got the HTC 10 — and we're answering your questions right here!

For several reasons I'm stuck with Cricket Wireless (AT&T MVNO) here in the US. One of the reasons I've held off from buying the S7 is the carrier lock (even if paying full price) and the disabled Hotspot functionality (O/S has a carrier check in the Cricket branded S7).
Can you confirm that the hotspot function works fine? I understand it may work differently on different carriers.
Also, I'm hoping that the OS updates will flow unhindered to the HTC 10 without having to go through the carriers which takes forever.

Re: We've got the HTC 10 — and we're answering your questions right here!

Question regarding the capacitive soft touch buttons. Since they are capacitive rather than on-screen, I'm assuming that switching them around is going to be impossible? Meaning, the option to switch the "Recents" and "Back" button no longer exists?

Re: We've got the HTC 10 — and we're answering your questions right here!

There's more noticeable distortion based on how you're holding the phone compared to two front-facing speakers. (Because different freqs are firing in different directions. Still sounds good though.)

Could you clarify a bit more please? Is it based on high volume, noisy environment, or some other factor. Given the fact that these are small speakers, it seems that there's always some distortion, which I notice on my M8 HK edition if I turn up the volume to loud.

Thanks,

Re: We've got the HTC 10 — and we're answering your questions right here!

Thanks for all the details. I have two questions:

1. Can you turn off Blinkfeed?
2. How is it in daylight compared to the M7? I find the M7 great in sunlight, was the only one for a long time. Im not as concerned with auto brightness but when you set it high yourself.

Thanks again.

It may depend on the carrier. For example, I can't officially tether with my Nexus 6P because Straight Talk blocks it, even though the phone natively supports it.

One solution is an app called Easytether. It's the only one I've found that works consistently and without root.

Re: We've got the HTC 10 — and we're answering your questions right here!

1. In some reviews HTC 10 I noticed the rednes colour in the screen on whites is it very noticeable?

Re: We've got the HTC 10 — and we're answering your questions right here!

Thanks for doing the Q&A, here are a few questions:

1. Looking at reviews screen looks really over-saturated up to a point where red turns into pink and blue seems more like purple, also the display seems to be dim even on maximum brightness. What is your opinion about the color saturation and brightness ?

2. Since you mentioned that the camera launch is faster after an update, how fast is the focus now compared to G5 or S7 ?

3. Finally can you please please do some storage performance (read/write random and seq tests) and tell me how it performs against G5 and S7. I really want to know how HTC 10's eMMc fairs against UFS .

Thanks

Re: We've got the HTC 10 — and we're answering your questions right here!

Build is great. Comes down to which design or materials you prefer really.

The high def headphones don't come with the phone in the US. In Europe/Asia they do.

How about Canada?
