Hard to believe, but Lenovo actually came through and got Oreo 8.1 to the Lenovo Tab 4 8 before the end of November. It's currently downloading on my daughter's tablet. A few months ago, Lenovo said it wouldn't be coming for the Tab 4 10 for some reason, so I was half expecting them to abandon it altogether for this line. Not bad for a near-budget $120 tablet.

No problems so far. Actually seems to have decreased the amount of space the system and bloatware take up by maybe a GB, which is nice. The update automatically installed a couple of games, which is kinda sneaky -- one of them was called Big Farm, the other Empires. Fortunately, they were easily uninstalled. I think Touchpal Keyboard was also ditched in favor of Gboard (thank God).

But they still have all of the unnecessary phone and mobile data related system apps, which shouldn't have been on the device in the first place, since there's no SIM slot, and it's a tablet without any telephony. Oh well, can't win 'em all.

Keep your fingers crossed for your extra Gb of storage, The Moto G5 had that after the Oreo 8.1 update but it disappeared within a week as the cache built up again. One nice thing though is that the cache then seems to stabilise and doesn't keep increasing.

Ah, but I think I had already cleared out the data cache beforehand, and after clearing the cache, it was still about a GB less of free storage than after the update. But I'll keep an eye on that!

I've just had the October security update today and gained 1/2 Gb of storage:-) Not holding out much hope of keeping it for long though:-(
