What A Mistake !!

Like myself, Im sure hundreds of you all received the latest update and lost a ton of features you used since getting this device! (Oreo I assume?)

Is there no way to return to the "Non Simplified" Layout where we had icons instead of the "List" style within settings?

Loss of larger Text arrival icon indicator?

Less customizable than previous software?

WTF over???

Yes, I realize there is most likely a long thread history elsewhere within the Forum, but if you're reading this I assume this is the same device you have.

Any help is greatly appreciated folks. UGHHHHH. !!

I'm going to take a wild guess and say you are in Verizon.. If I'm right this is nothing new.. The big red always has a big talk about being the best while they secretly take features and settings away and customize a ton of their phones while adding apps no one wants..

I've the At&t updated phone. I don't have these new gifs or stickers in messages that people are speaking of. Also have lost the option for personalized notifications. This was very useful :/
T-Mobile here. Nothing was taken away in the update but if GIF and stickers were, I'd just go back to using Swiftkey or Gboard. For icon personalization I'd go with Nova which I currently use.

Are you guys that are having problems doing a hard reset? I have better battery life and it's faster

Yes I did a factory reset and I'm still having these issues. Some are clearly just disadvantage with Oreo; i.e. the notification badges linked to the notification shade, the icon frames being inconsistent, battery life.

But the random power resets and crashing of Google Now and Assistant are definitely bugs. I'm also noticing my Samsung keyboard doesn't always stay up on certain website text fields.

I'm with Verizon and don't see the same problems others are reporting; no resets or app crashes. I did clear the cache partition after the update. Bixby using the simplified settings layout could be the reason for no option to change that. If anything, the battery life might be a skosh poorer.

Same - no crashes, no resets - running smooth as ever. Didn't notice a change in battery one way or the other.

no issues here yet with mine on vzw. ive had my fair share of updates over the years that hosed my phone but this isnt one of them it seems. thank god

no hard reset here

Yes!!!
Thank you for explaining the exact thing that peeves me the most!

I cannot recall which one was "Simplified" but not having the ability to change it back to the Icon type setting, vs this new List type setting has still thrown me for a loop!

If you folks now understand what I'm trying to say, please let me know if there is anyway to get that feature back? Thanks folks!

Semper Fidelis!

About the notification Vs badge count, what I had figured is that, as long as the notification remains the badge count remains. the moment you swipe the notification, the badge count goes off and the OS believes that you have addressed the notification. What I had liked about the previous version is that, I can leave some of the messages or emails or WhatsApp messages as is and address them later and I still will have the badge count, even if I have removed the notifications. I think, Oreo wants our behaviour to be adjusted in a different way.

Do I like it? not fully ... though I may like the idea, I would want the previous option of leaving the badge count visible.

I am just hoping this to come back soon!!

thought for the day. if you were sick or had financial issues, would you appreciate everyone dropping by to say "I'm not sick", "I have plenty of money"? just because we or you are okay, not having issues, doesn't mean it's helpful.

I'm gunna say this. We should have 8.1 not 8.0. It is obvious that Google wanted to **** everyone of us off with the crap they gave us.

Does Samsung ever use the point release? In my experience they always use the .0 of each version. Most of the OEMs do. Personally I think it's stupid because all of the fixes are in the .1 releases and for as long as they take they might as well use the version with the fixes IMHO.

Didn't the note 8 launch with 7.1? I can't remember, but I thought it did.

I have Verizon, I've noticed that my blutetooth takes a bit longer to connect after the update. Some apps takes longer to open too, such as Camscanner.
