What are YOUR impressions of the Pixel 3/3 XL?

Other than the main camera, I'm not all that impressed by the Pixel 3. The price bump is a bit much, haven't used wireless charging in years, never considered enhanced selfie quality that big of a deal and don't view glass as a more premium material than aluminum. The overall upgrade just isn't enough to justify paying over $800 when I have a pristine Pixel 2 that meets all my needs.
Understandable

Last year's form factors, next year's prices. The 23% price increase for the small Pixel in particular was a kick in the groin. Screens, RAM and storage are average. Build quality...Well, considering most phones sold in the US are Apple and Samsung, which have some of the best build quality in the industry, it would be generous to assume average build quality. Some other flagships do more with video.

Taking all of that into account...I placed my preorder for the basic black Pixel 3 on day one as soon as my butt hit the desk chair. :D:D:D

Seriously, as I pointed out in another thread, Pixel hardware isn't the main selling point of the phones. It's about the getting the latest Android updates unadulterated by cheesy bloatware and seamless integration with all those great Google apps and services. It's about getting the best still photos available on a smartphone and being first in line to get whatever wacky new experiments Google is working on.

The hardware isn't really the best in the business, but the Android experience clearly is, and sometimes you need newer hardware to take advantage of the latest software. That's why I send Google money every year or two for the latest offering.

Not if it is hiding the notch....

Yeah, it a really poor implementation. Essentially just makes the top part of the screen a bezel and shifts all the notifications/clock etc down.

If that gets fixed prior to launch, I may consider getting the 3XL, pending seeing it in person and how well hidden the notch becomes, otherwise, I'll probably get the Pixel 3.

I am not a big notch hater. If I was to buy one I would get the 3 XL but I know not all will share that same thought.

We have found out since my prior post that disabling or hiding the notch doesn't behave like some of the other Android phones which blacken the area and leave the notifications and status inline with the notch. Hopefully they'll fix that later for those who prefer that behavior.

There's an app called Nacho Notch that does what you're talking about (darkeining the regular notification area rather than pushing it below the notch).

Lol wow. Well at least no "beauty gate" action with these although it's good the option is there for people who might want/need it.

Ugggggg, horrid photo and I’m surprise that’s it’s from a Pixel.
Massively oversharpened showing all the artifacts that it causes.

Yet the hardware, is among the best in the business. Among the best displays, among the best build materials, among the best build quality, among the best SoC, better than the best camera (granted mostly software), among the best audio... the only thing "lacking" is RAM, which is a thing that is absurdly irrelevant when given the context of how RAM actually works on Linux and Android, when not being malformed by software that tries to make it behave the way that Windows does.

Huh? Isn't this an example photo from a Nikon or are you referring to something else?

I found myself in a Verizon store earlier today so took a look at the two pixels. The notch is weird looking, but I already knew that. What I liked even less is the gestures required to navigate. That'd be a learning curve for me as it did not seem intuitive.I didn't care for it but I know most like that method of navigating around the various aspects of the phone real estate. Other than that dislike I didn't relly see anything that would entice me to lay out that cash required to get one.
One interesting thing I noticed right off about the notch , I went to Android Central using the chrome browser and no notch. It wasn't there. It was a cropped screen that I didn't notice at first. So went to the calendar app and it stuck out like the big sore thumb that it is. Apparently some setting must have been ticked for web browsing as it didn't show up on chrome. I didn't look into it further. P3 is absolutely a pass for me.

Yes, it's definitely a divisive issue. I for one do not like it at all and Google implementation to 'hide' it is not really an acceptable outcome. Pushing the notifications down and not using the screen just makes no sense.

Hopefully they implement something via software update to black out the top and have the notifications in there.

It's been said the hardware was being built by Foxconn who also builds Apple so if true the build quality should be in the same ballpark.

Yes....it said Nikon

Come on people, think a little about what I said and the context of it. Though the example is from a Nikon, it’s showimg what oversharpening looks like and causes. Simple as. :-p
That pixel photo is an oversharpened mess and that surprises me a little that a pixel produced it.
Pixel photos (though oversharpened as are most cell phone pics) are usually better than that one. :)

Lol. Come on

I have no idea what you are trying to say
